Real Alternative will allow you to play RealMedia files without having to install the official RealPlayer. You do need a media player that is capable of playing RealMedia files. The included Media Player Classic supports it. Supported are RealAudio (.ra .rpm), RealVideo (.rm .ram .rmvb), RealText (.rt), and ReadPix (.rp). Not fully supported are: Streaming smil files (.smi .smil) and Realmedia embedded in webpages.

Real Alternative has the following other editions available: Real Alternative Lite.

I agree with the guy below. I've even converted a few very very old rm videos I had lying around the hard drive to larger files or re-downloaded what I could find just to be able to ditch the format. Always sucked anyway. R.I.P.

Great product, but Real's protocol has basically been abandoned online. I haven't loaded a Real clip in well over 3 years.

Tried this, hmmm.... I couldn't convert .ra to .wav with any application, I went back to version 1.60 and now I can again.
