About video games:

People may be interested to know that I still had stuttering in most games despite, during my troubleshooting, installing ONLY Windows XP Pro, the minimal drivers and a single game.

I ended up trying MSCONFIG (Start, RUN) and ran in diagnostic mode. I ran ALL of my problem games just fine. In fact even my benchmark apps were much higher. Initially I had no sound until I started turning things on.

I'm still troubleshooting, but if you have any stuttering issues try running "msconfig" (start basic) and see what happens. If things improve you have software issues. I'm currently rebooting and turning certain Services and Startup apps off but I'm narrowing down the issues.

*Again, a FRESH installation of Windows XP Pro and the minimal drivers still had issues.

My system:
MCE 2005 (basically XP Pro; tested SP2 and SP3)
Asus A8N-SLI Premium
Gigabyte HD3870 512MB
2GB DDR3200 (400MHz)
AMD X2 4800+ (2x2.4GHz)
Creative Audigy 2 (tested onboard sound as well)

drivers used for minimal installation:
-latest NVidia main chipset
-AMD/ATI version 8.5
-Creative download for Audigy 2
-AMD (initially none, then Cool 'n Quiet and dual-core optimizer)

*Note: I have NOT identified the problem yet. If you DO have stuttering, here's the basic troubleshooting:
1) Start->RUN->"msconfig"
2) Diagnostic Startup
3) Stuttering solved? (YES-> Continue, NO-> Fresh installation with minimal hardware, drivers and a problem game)
4) Enable half the Services and RESTART
5) Stuttering back? (disable half of the ones you enabled. Continue in this manner until you discover the issue. Write it down.)
6) This troubleshooting is called the "half-split" method.

Points:
-It's possible your system might not like some hardware you have and changing drivers or removing certain hardware will solve your problem.

-Vista is slightly different and I haven't yet tested it. One cool thing is that you might wish to identify ONLY the video and audio apps necessary to game and you might get XP performance using Vista with its extra stuff turned off.

-Sorry to be long, but I hope this helps. I recommend copying this and doing a little reading Google/Wikipedia on any questions you might have.

-Troubleshoot with 2 games that the stuttering is quick and easy to get to (you'll reboot a lot). I used Neverwinter Nights #1, Far Cry and periodically 3DMark2000/2001/2006.

-Write things down.

-Create a basic image using a program called Acronis True Image 10/11 or similar to easily restore Windows. Make another one later with more apps for easy installation to a clean environment.

-*I've used nLite extensively in the past and MAY do so again to remove problem areas (to avoid "msconfig" if feasible which is partly why I created this LONG comment.

Good luck.

Just to add to my previous comment has anyone try to make an Office 2003 SP3 Slipstream disk yet and if so let me know what steps were used in creating it?

cricri_pingouin, next time search and ask.
That is a known Windows limitation, not an nLite bug. Read the help next to the OEM Preinstall button on the Unattended page and use Forum for bug reports.

OEM Preinstall:
"...if you load RAID/SATA drivers from a floppy disk using the 'F6' method then you must disable this or you'll get a corrupted sys file message when loading the drivers."

Exactly the same problem as pleva, whom I'll quote: "have a problem with RAID F6 install. Drivers works fine during early setup, but during Copy phase hangs".
Slipstreaming my SATA drivers into my XP CD was my number 1 objective. Following the numerous glorious reviews since pleva's may 2006 review, I thought that by now it would be a piece of cake for nLite. Sadly, it seems that I was mistaken, and my rating reflects my disappointment.

Nuhi: the fact that what I discovered the hard way is a known issue on the forum doesn't change the fact that this "missing" vital function (which I didn't qualify as a bug) negates a lot of the advantages that could make nLite appealing to start with.
Besides, a list of functions really needed is presented early on. "Need to load drivers with F6" should be included, which should prevent enabling OEM preinstall. Users are given the feeling that this selection screen eliminates conflicts, yet they are expected to read every single message for every option selected where more conflicts are documented?

All words a human could say are nothing to that, that this program is.
But i say it: Best of the best ... and for free. Nothing could beat nlite in this category .... nothing! And it's one of the most powerful apps i know.
