Good bench program and gives you a good estimate of how your computer should run for futuristic that will rip your computer apart. And for the 9600 xt, that is definately some older technology especially when you are not using pci express x16 which allows the graphics card to have the information to be transferred on a basic two lane highway instead of an old agp slot which it only allows it to go in one direction at time. So update your system before posting a bad review on it because of your older system. And they do have mad pci express boards now so you can still use your 3200+ if you choose to do so.

the absolute best piece of hardware to test system stability. crank up that FSB and loop 3dmark03 or 05 overnight. if it's running when you wake up, congrats on a nearly 100% stable overclock.

Dear Mr. Athlon 64 3200 and 9600 XT, your an idiot, of course it runs like puke on a 9600, this program was intended for benching systems with AT LEAST a 9800 XT / Geforce 5900. BTW, a 9600 XT is NOT decent hardware ;)
If this runs like crap on your comp, then get 3dmark2003. Those of you who gave this program bad ratings because of your s***ty hardware, just stfu and leave reviews to people that know what they are talking about, and actually have recent hardware, not 4-year-old graphics cards.

I am very impressed, this thing gives my overclocked A64 FX55 quite a workout, and comes quite handy when overclocking my 6800, to see if I have any improvements. Best graphics benchmarking out there, period.

Great program. Obviously nothing can beat a real game as a gaming benchmark. But you can't fault this as a synthetic benchmark. It is always ahead of the game stressing your computer to the max, therefore showing you how your computer will perform with next year's games (which is important when considering a new computer).

Yes another 3D garbage, i do wonder what they promote this year , ATI or Nvidia ?? hahaha

My Gigabyte ATI 9600Pro rocks :-)

A poor tool. Nice and pretty demo, but as a benchmark tool it's been both ahead of it's time for a few generations as well as a easily tweaked tool for the vid card manufacturers. It runs like puke on my hardware with Athlon 64 3200+ and 9600xt, which is decent hardware.

By the way, to the previous poster, you need to tweak your AGP available RAM in the BIOS, bump it up a tad.

funny how it includes games (thus the size), with real engines, real shaders, etc.

get a clue dude.

Big file download size... uninspring benchmarks/demos... and it's saying my Athlon XP 3000+ Barton is not up to snuff? For a 3D benchmark, it's very biased.

Who pay their bills, I wonder...?

This program sucks! I tried to run it in DOS 1.0 and it didn't work! My card with 2 bits of shared video memory should work with this program. My 286 is AWESOME. I know the program says 2003, but Bill Gates said 640k oughta be enough for anybody. And by god, I stick by him.

Seriously people, this program is a Direct X 9.0 Benchmarking tool. So if you don't have a direct x 9.0 enabled card of course your score is going to be low. If you had a 10 ghz processor and a non dx9 graphic card you would still score lower then someone with a ATI 9500.

For what it does it is the industry standard.

CyberDoc999, bear in mind that 3DMark is supposed to push your system to the limits, and test for speed of the Next Generation of games (Doom III and the like).

3Dmark programs always appear a bit slow until the hardware catches up with them.

CyberDoc999 reviewed v2003 3.2.0 on Apr 30, 2003

This benchmark does not mean anything.
My system plays all of the games on the market
and acording to this benchmark I should place my
computer in the trash.

Kiriakos GR, talk about the program, nobody want's to read your little rants. All in all I think this is a good benchmarking tool. As with any benchmark, it should be used in conjunction with others.

Apollos

Apollos reviewed v2003 3.1.3 on Feb 12, 2003

I like the new tests. Good program, great leap from the previous 2001 version.

Ok, so the details may not parallel the lower graphic standards of a lot of games today, but it gives you a good idea of how graphics of everyday games will steer toward in the near future, which is not really a bad thing.

I have the nVIDIA Geforce 4 Ti 4200 with an AMD Athlon XP K7 2400+ and an Audigy 2 soundcard, it all worked surprising smoothly, ok, there were times where the frame rates were low but at the end of the day, the Ti will continue to swim through games on the market for quite some time yet.

As proud Voodoo3 3000 owner, I will offer some cheap negative comments.
The file size is just outrageous, specially for dial-up users, the 3Dmark 2002, was one attempt to deliberately force the people in trashing their hardware, this one, is another one too.
My system is one Celery 1400 with one ASUS TUSL-2C with 512 megs Cas2 ,with fast peripherals , HD CDRW etc etc , and I will NOT trash this fine system , for any 3Dmark of this world .
As long I can play UT at 1024 with awesome speed, I am happy , about the latest UT2 , I can say that this is another 3Dmark ,and Nvidia is behind it too .
And if, and I am saying if, I will ever replace my system, and I am saying replace , and not upgrade, because with the current status, there is nothing as upgrade options, (because of the incompatibility of the 2X 4X 8X AGP slots design.) I will get one ATI 9500 pro or better, for sure.

Palomino

Palomino reviewed v2003 3.1.3 on Feb 12, 2003

This benchmark requires a fast system. A 1.6GHz CPU and a Ti4600 can't get much above 15fps in some of the tests. The ATI 9700 works pretty good, and so will the GeForce FX when it comes out. Unless you have a fast computer, don't even bother downloading this program.

Because of the "nothing" new things i give this 3 stars. It works great but what is the new here. By the way those trying to make it work on Pentiums I MMX , with mega old graphic cards should just forget it . Obvius it will restart your system , if your Video Card it´s no better as a 3Dfx VooDoo 2.

Still reboots my computer half way through the tests and is the only one that has so far. Should try to fix major bugs before throwing in new features. Might just be my setup or I might be a minority, but even us little guys have a place to voice our opinions once in a while. Was going to give it a 1, but heck...that nature scene is just too nice. Can't fault those wonderful renderings since the last few tests randomly reboot the computer. Really, it is more of a work of art than it is a benchmark, even if it does show just what your card can do.
