Great program.
When I read the other comments concerning the price I thought "$1,000 no it can't be that expensive" so I checked.
The full price of Photoshop CS6 is $699.
The full price of Design Standard (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Bridge and a few other small tools) is $1,299.
I must say that does seem a touch excessive, and probably well outside the reach of most people.
Might I therefore suggest two version an individual version (say $100 per program) and a corporate version (say $250 per program).

If you can't afford it use something else:

Adobe Elements is still very good & not expensive & good enough for 99% of users, the GIMP is free & there are other inexpensive alternatives. Whether PS is worth updating from previous versions depends on why & how you use it.

Photoshop is expensive although you can buy legitimate or older versions of PS for less than the price on the Adobe site. It is the best photo editor there is: Absolute.

@xsnred - (Greg Galindo) Announcing on a public forum you use stolen Adobe software is brainless, plain stupid & not without risks as you have absolutely no idea who reads your comments ~

If you couldn't afford a $7000 Leica camera to use with your stolen software is it OK to go into a camera store & steal a Leica because ‘you’ feel they are overpriced or because you are not a professional photographer?

Some consider Leica cameras to be way over priced yet others think they are worth each & every penny - Just like PhotoShop.

I'm not a giant industry & I have no time for those who thieve what I have worked hard for or to buy & they deserve any consequences whatsoever that may come their way.

I have used PS from number 3 up and it is the best. I also have tried other software that do as good but can't quite equal PS. The only reason I give it one star is because the price is just ridiculous. Yep, that's why all mine are pirated and I, and people like me, will be blamed for the reason it cost so much. I understand all the hard work and coding that goes into PS to make it what it is, the best, but it is not worth the money. The giant industries and movie makers who use PS can afford the price and I dare say that's why it is priced so high. There are probably millions of graphic art studios that use PS, so why not price it high. It is a five star product with a one star price.

All new features stolen from open source projects like GIMP. And you get to pay $1000 bucks for 2% new code, 98% of the code is identical to the last 10 versions.

Thanks adobe, but no thanks.

The update is obviously for CS4 and does address performance and crash issues. Here is a list of the issues covered by this update. (from John Nack's site)

A number of issues that could cause slow performance have been addressed.

Pen barrel rotation with Wacom tablets now works correctly.

Photoshop now correctly recognizes 3D textures edited by a plug-in.

The quality of the results of Auto-Blend Layers (Stack Images) has been improved.

A problem that could result in a crash when pasting formatted text has been fixed.

A crash that could result from a corrupt font no longer occurs.

Adobe Downloads at Adobe.com offers a 30 day trial version of CS4.

"This is an enourmous product, and requires a great deal of resources (hard drives, memory, etc.) to do what it is capable of doing.

That said, it is not the best value and certainly not the most efficient, but they already have a product in the lower-cost arena, so it is not fair to judge this primarily on value, imo. If there was only one single product and it was incredibly expensive, huge, resource hungry as this, I can understand factoring that in to a higher degree.

As all-encompousing and powerful as this program can be, it is still a daunting challenge for a new user to master."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is an update to a program computer users already have on their computers, therefore it is not a review of the program but rather of the update which appears to function as designed. I realize that at the top of this page it says, "Post a Review of Adobe Photoshop CS3" but give us a break, please. The update works as designed, so enough said.

DudeBoyz

DudeBoyz reviewed v11.0.1 Update on Feb 27, 2009

UPDATE: This is an update. But the purpose of this update is to apply changes to the core product itself, so one must regard this update in that context, I believe. I cannot review this update ALONE because it is not a stand-alone capable product. This is not an external add-on or plug-in. This is a full-on update to the core Photoshop Product - I don't see how one could be done without the other. Hope that explains my position.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

This is an enourmous product, and requires a great deal of resources (hard drives, memory, etc.) to do what it is capable of doing.

As all-encompousing and powerful as this program can be, it is still a daunting challenge for a new user to master.

I'd like to give a 3.5, but that's not an option. For now I feel sort of ok at 3.0 for a rating, but I may up that during more extensive testing.

I would suggest that the product be made a bit more modular and have each of those modules be more optimized and efficient, but for an item this entrenched it could be a tough sell. WIndows 7 is a better Vista, and I think PhotoShop can follow a similar course if they are willing to listen to customer needs and concerns.

A crash that could occur when Microsoft Intellipoint software is installed has been fixed.
• The speed of moving objects contained within multiple layer sets has been improved.
• The speed of closing large documents has been improved.
• Converting images to CMYK using certain profiles no longer results in black files.
• A crash that could occur when saving a 4-bit BMP file with 16 or fewer colors has been fixed.
• The Save for Web feature now includes an option to "Include XMP" (metadata) in the settings menu within the main Save for Web interface, making the existing capability easier to access.
• When using Save For Web with "Include XMP" enabled, all XMP data is now included in the optimized file.
• A problem that could cause the incorrect printer to appear within the print dialog box has been corrected.
• Images no longer print with odd-sized margins on various Epson printers, or print smaller and off-centered.
• Printer settings in Windows? are saved with a document while that document is open. If a document has not had Page Setup settings applied to it, the document will get the previous page setup used during the current session of Photoshop.
• Photoshop now turns off Windows ICM (system color management) when "Photoshop Manages Colors."
• Print color matching has been improved.
• A problem that caused certain laser printers to show distortions when printing to a nonsquare resolution has been fixed.

From Adobe website:

- Menus now respond correctly after a single click.
- Undo/Redo work properly when multiple documents are open.
- Photoshop no longer produces a program error when encountering unsupported file types through the Acrobat Touchup workflow.
- Supported files that incorrectly produced an "unsupported color space" message now open as expected.
- TIFF files with layer data greater than 2GB now open correctly.

Don't install this update yet if you're not having problems that you think it can fix. As of today's date (5.19.06), users have reported the update is causing problems of its own including:

1. An extra click annoyance:

After updating to 9.01, menus require an extra click to regain focus from non-maximized document windows (i.e. you have to click "File, File" instead of just "File" to access the file menu.) This bug has been acknowledged by Scott Byer of Adobe Tech Support in the Adobe user forums. Scott's suggested workaround:

"Bring the Info palette to the front once
after launch, then hide it or bring the Navigator back in front. If it starts in back and you don't touch it, the extra click is still needed."

Link:

http://www.adobeforums.c...bin/webx?128@@.3bbff0a6

2. Layer re-naming weirdness:

If you try to rename any layer in the layer palette while the Info palette is open, when you move the cursor, it weirdly switches between "Hand" and "Input".

Workaround: Close Info palette or dock it in the palette well.

3. Brush Preset Picker does not close when you double-click it.

The Brush Preset Picker menu in Photoshop CS2 Options bar does not close when you double-click a brush preset. This bug was reported earlier, but still remains unfixed with the 9.01 update.

Hopefully there will be another update to the update soon to fix this and other issues that were not addressed in this build.

Good! I've found it slow all round though; nowhere I could put my finger on; just S.L.O.W. I suspect that the bugfix for opening files > 2 GB won't affect me; some other fixes also seem to only affect very specialised users.

Software is excellent!
... but priced at $649, can it be honestly classified as shareware?
Most "shareware" definitions include "small fee or contribution" as a price and the option of continued use of a lesser version if the user opts for not paying for the "latest" version. In most Adobe products (as in this one) the real definition is "trial" not shareware. Please keep this straight.

You guys must be using a blacklisted serial.---Repeat
Mostlikely your serial is 1045-1209-6738-4668-7696-2783
which is alreadyu blacklisted. If you claim, you bought
a CD with this serial, then, you bought a bootleg CD.
Go to registry and change serial at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Photoshop\7.0\Registration
and then try update. If that serial is also blacklisted,
then, update will refuse. If not, your wish comes through.

The best, yes, but the price needs to start coming down...it's software for christs sake. Adobe has taken advantage of it's domination in the imaging department - Paint Shop Pro offers a cheap but powerful alternative, so casual users should explore that option. But if your a professional, you have to have this.

Many nice updates for Adobe Photoshop; the best image editing tool out there - if you have the money. If you're ona tight budget, Paint Shop Pro comes in second, which takes a lot less ram as well :)
