Advanced Call Center is a full-featured yet easy-to-use answering machine software for your voice modem. All necessary functions are supported: Caller ID lets you see and hear who's calling via screen pop-ups, distinctive rings and caller's name announcement with speech synthesis. "Black" and "white" list functions filter calls based on caller database, call origin and other parameters. You can map personalized greetings to callers, organize information in phone books and record conversations. Advanced features include pager notification, sending call details and voice messages over e-mail, and starting an external fax program when an incoming fax call is recognized. Tightly integrating voice modem with the sound card, it offers real time voice transfer from telephone line to PC sound system, so you don't need an extra speaker attached to the modem. Runs as a tray application when idle, uses minimum system resources, and automatically frees the modem for an Internet connection.

It doesn't look like this program has gotten much better. I could not get this to work worth a damn a year ago. I found Call Soft and couldn't be much happier. Call Soft 3 will kick ass. It already can email you mp3 of v/m and images of faxes, announce callers with the speech engine, greet callers with custom wav's or text-to-speech (coolest use for caller ID yet!), etc. Version 3 has mailboxes, but it's still in beta. And it works with these hoaky Creative Labs voice modems, and in Win2k! The only other program that worked in Win2k was HotFax - and it was weak compared to Call Soft.

I've used it with 5 different modems and it works great. You most likely didn't bother spending enough time with it to set it up correctly, your modem sucks, or you don't have a voice modem.

The reason I do not use linux is because I do not WANT to spend time configuring my software for several hours. Maybe they should release this as a linux product and I would not bother. So, that is a totally invalid reason why it does not work for me. My modem sucks? Yet it knows when there is a ring and I get the crappy a** "ring" wav file.. yeah that is it buddy. And yes, it is a voice modem.

I always thought the people who ran BetaNews were great, but I guess this proves they are a bunch of SPAM promoting irresponsible jackasses! **** you and your site
