i used to love it, but its 64-bit support is shoddy at best. daemon tools pro advanced seems to do the exact same thing as alcohol, only daemon doesnt crash when i try to:

-copy a disk
-make an image
-burn an image to a disk

Hi @ all,

im very happy with this Software it covers all my needs for a image tool. I used to have DemonTools Pro Advanced and am very disapointed in its fetures. With Alcohol-Soft I can mount, backup and burn Images with no Problems. I can use Multiburners to burn Multible CDs at once.

I think when you buy a Software youll have to be confident with it. Thats why you Try before you Buy. ;)

That Alcohol Supports more and more Hardware and CD-DVD........ Is great and a good approach.

Keep on going Alcohol-Soft. :D

Best regards Val.

I stick by my previous review of this software. Everything said there is still true about it. One exception: I tested this version, and still no changes other than support for burners etc. Still no mastering ability. The exception is that I no longer use this for disk mounting anymore. Elaborate Bytes has a freeware version (TOTALLY FREE) for virtual disk to mount images. Used in combination with imgBurn, I can master disks, create images, burn virtually ALL formats of images, mount them etc etc etc... and I do it all for free.

Alcohol has gotten bloated, and the price tag is ridiculous considering all of this. $57.00 is simply CRAZY with only one year of updates.

You will also find that the other reviews for this software that hit 4 or above, seem to be from the developers themselves posting their changelog in a positive review for themselves, and that's just in poor form.

I once really like this software. In fact, I also helped moderate a channel/forum for support of this program. It's lacking, however, in that it has never had any disk mastering function (the ability to add files etc to make custom burns without having to create images). When checked a couple of years ago, they had promised it in the works and have never delivered. Along came DVD Decryptor and this program went by the wayside. DVD Decryptor gave way to the legal hub bub and changed to ImgBurn (same program without the ability to rip DVD's). The cool thing about ImgBurn is that it does everything Alcohol does, but it's MUCH smaller, DOES include disk mastering, and is totally and completely FREE. I do miss the ability to mount images in Alcohol, so I stick with an older version that still works solely for that feature. Until they add disk mastering, it's bloatware since other software does what this one does, costs way less, or is even freely available with no timeouts, adware etc.

This program was once promising, but the only promises I see now are increasing bloatware like Nero, and still no needed other features.

-right click shell extension is once again broken on 64-bit XP.
-icons for files associated with alcohol 120 are broken for some reason.
-crashes whenever i try to burn a disk image.
-in this version you are supposed to be able to set a larger buffer - if you have enough RAM. on a 64-bit XP box with 5GB RAM, the maximum buffer was still 256MB. the option for 512MB and 1024MB were not even there.
-the new "xtra wizard" is a good idea, but it needs work. all the images the xtra wizard use the UDF format, which has always given me problems - after making several different images and burning them to disks, ive ended up with a bunch of coasters.

under normal circumstances, i really enjoy this program. but all the problems with this version are really unacceptable.
