I am very pleased with this software. I have been using it for several years now and I have never had a problem with it, nor in using it. I am quite pleased with it and what it does. I suppose more cold be added but for me it is perfect on my windows 7 X64. No install or uninstall issues and no burning issues for me. I am very pleased with it.

I tryied Ashampoo Burning Studio 11 but not impressive enough eventhough has some new futures!! i will stick with burning studio 10 for now!!!! Ashampoo could have done it better by adding music and video converter but hay it's their software and hope they would release much better version in? the future My hopes went down the drain, this is not what i have expected

RE: Burning studio this is where we part company. There isn't anything new in this release but an exponentially increased install size from v 10 (Up from 110 - 170+ Meg) & increased disc & inlay support? This but something I have no need for as I already have a dedicated label system. Actually the improvements in this department after further investigation are minimal.

I ditched Nero because of added bloat & this program has gone the same way. Stick with version 10 or even earlier. I had issues getting this to work properly on Win 7, but it is a beta. This is a new version just to increase revenue, shame on you Ashampoo.

You can put this release where the sun don't shine. I was offered this today in a mail for £11, maybe 15 bucks - No thanks.

the Improvements you added to version 11 are not enough To justify an upgrade

i think to make ashampoo burning studio 11 better the company need to add this future

    - video converter to convert from dvd or video to all kind of format avi, mp3 mobile, etc with cut option -- video converter are the next wave because this days almost all dvd or mobile read divx or avi

    - audio convert to change format and audio quality

    - disc spanning Especially to studio 11 compact -- Disc spanning is a feature of CD and DVD burning software that automatically spreads a large amount of data across many data discs if the data set's size exceeds the storage capacity of an individual blank disc

    - record audio from microphone

i try to make dvd video with ashampoo 11 from 3 video about 700 mb Each. the software adjusted the file to make them fit and informe the result are good but when the convert start after a while i get an error. Only when I remove 1 movie the covnert success. the compression Mechanism of this version is not good. i must say the speed of the conversion was good

and also try to make mp3 disc and choose the bitrate i want. the software start the conversion to the chosen mp3 bitrate before the burning. the conversion process was slow and the software convert even mp3 with the same bitrate i choose

Their software is excellent value and works well, never had a problem with any of their software either. I particularly like burning studio, excellent and does a great job, and so does their Ashampoo Win Optimizer 7 ... You can get most of their software on sale at one time or another. I would be very surprised to know that anyone had problems with them, as I have never. Excellent...

Now that you can purchase the core Nero Burning ROM 10 application for less than $50, this product does not have an advantage in value anymore, hence the lower score.

It functions adequately, though a bit clumsily, and may be enough for most users. The core Nero Burning ROM 10 application is about 77 meg, and this Ashampoo entry is about the same, so no advantage in terms of being leaner and cleaner either. Both of those releases are larger than the core Nero Burning ROM 6 application, which was about 35 to 36 meg in size, but they do more and support more formats. So 77 meg does not seem too far out of line, I think.

Maybe some solid competition will help this product improve and perhaps lower prices in the near future. Until then, it's average at best and dollar for dollar hard to recommend over the core Nero Burning ROM 10 release.

Nowadays, this is the really best burner.

I have just one wish - it would very nice to add an option to associate the disk image files.

Also, I can't understand why it lacks the "FULL ERASE" feature. It is presented in functions, you should just uncheck the "Quick Erase", but in reality it doesn't works (how it's possible to full erase the DVD in less than a minute?).

@pjb. I tried and like gburner. Very good feature set in exchange for the reduced file size. I keep burning studio at the top of the list only because it automatically retrieves music track information from the net when ripping and because it has a builti in labeling program. This, obviously adds to the program size. Butg I wouldn't call it bloat.

I agree partially with you pjb, the app is growing in size although I still don't feel it's becoming bloatware yet. Like you I've used it for a couple of years and found it does a great job, not produced a coaster yet.
I still reckon it rates 5 stars not the 3 you gave it.

Like pjb says wait until after the trial period ends before purchasing as the price drops very rapidly :)

After using Ashampoo for a few years (I used to replace Nero), I found that it has become rather bloated. All though it does a good job I have found gburner a lot lighter and does what I need it to do.

One thing I do dislike about Ashampoo is they don't have continuity in pricing. You can download the version, and then receive a few emails all with different discounts. Generally the best way to get max discount is await until the trial has finished.

    UPDATE:

Ashampoo emailed that version 6.61 Free is in fact the newer, full featured version and the free promotional 2008 version has reduced functionality.

This 8.02 release appears to be the most complete, up-to-date, retail version and supersedes both 6.61 Free and Studio 2008 packages.

    Original Post:

I'm somewhat confused and hope someone here can explain what is up with the Burning Studio.

Release 2008 v7.11 would appear, on the surface, to be the newer product.

But release v6.61 seems to have more / different features.

So is the free v6.61 release actually a more full-featured version of the burning studio app compared to 2008 v7.11?

Is v6.61 actually the full-fledged retail release of the burning studio, with all the extra bells and whistles?

Is 2008 v7.11 a stripped-down version of the app, that while also free, does not have all the features and is therefore actually an inferior crippleware product? There appears to be a pay-for version of 2008 and this free promotional version of 2008 studio:

    http://www.computeractive.co.uk/burningstudio/

I'd appreciate any relevant info you can provide.

In the mean time, the 2008 version provided for download here at BetaNews seems to be a pretty capable version that is faster and uses less resources than Nero, for example.

It's a good app, and worthy of a 4 rating, imo.

I downloaded and installed because i was user of BS 6 free and i received a mail for purchase for a low price(i'm bored of emails from Ashampoo).
Well after install the program i tested it:
    -Very low starting
-A lot of resources usage(120k only opened)
-If you take the wrong option, you need close and reopen all the aplication.
-I opended, i choose a wrong option, i close the program and reopen, my PC freezed, then reset button. I repeat this operation and again freezed my PC.

    Unisnstalled.
I returned to my free programs Img Burn and CD burner XP, both free and no problems.

Review Score Explanation:- Lacks some powerful features that free apps like ImgBurn have, so the $29.99 seems a bit high to me. However, it is a decent little application and as stated by others, it is not a bloated mess like Nero has become in their more recent versions (both v7.x and v8.x).

I have used nero for many many many years. Unfortunately, I have been falling out of love with it. Nero 8 was the bloated straw that broke the camels back. I was getting runtime errors, it was slow to load on my fairly modern system.

Also, the new nero phones home to check serial numbers which I dont care for.

I had heard good things about ashampoo here so i decided to try it. Wow. Just wow. The UI is nicer than Nero. It wasnt designed to be run in full screen like cruddy Nero.

It can do everything nero can, only its cheaper, smaller, faster and prettier.

Was a big fan of version 6, but I am disappointed to see the installation size balloon from 18megs to 47megs. The whole reason I switched from Nero was because of the bloat, and now it looks like Ashampoo may be following in their footsteps. But, the new features are nice, and hopefully I will be proven wrong. Still a great piece of software nevertheless.

I have burning studio 6 and the previous version 5. When you want to "just burn a disk" I click on Ashampoo. When it gets more complicated, I will use Nero. Once you buy Ashampoo, upgrade rates to new versions are very reasonable. They also offer dirt cheap prices on their previous versions. It's good to be on their mailing list (although they write often). You can make bids on their obsolete software.

Ashampoo is relatively light, yet includes all the features you need. The way you add files to a compilation could use a little work, but it isn't enough to keep it from getting a 5.
