Auslogics Disk Defrag is designed for fast optimization of modern hard disks. Use it together with Auslogics BoostSpeed to get the top performance out of your expensive hardware.
- Improved processing of files blocked by the system (e.g. system restore points)
- Added new colour to the map – unmovable files
- Fixed a compaction algorithm bug that moved files into the MFT zone when there wasn’t enough disk space
- Tuned up colour theme colours – now they match better
- Improved tray program operation
- Simplified program interface

With the added features in version 3, Disk Defrag has indeed become a useful program and worthy of consideration. Auslogics' promise of future MFT defrag will make it an even more viable product.
The portable version which I tested does have a deal breaker: it writes it's settings in the registry of every computer it is used on. I have suggested that Auslogics use a local INI file for this purpose, making it a true portable app. The portable executable is really an installer that silently extracts it's files to the user's temp folder, executes the program from there and then deletes the files when the program is exited.

I have to admit it, I think Defraggler does a better job. This still appears to me to do the fastest job though but it now comes second all be it a close second.

I find it funny that they include the fact that it can defrag flash drives as one of its competitive benefits. Please, people, don't defrag your flash drives--there is absolutely no performance benefit to doing so, and it WILL cause unnecessary wear on the flash drive, and maybe even premature failure. (Flash drives are not accessed mechanically; there is no drive head jumping around... It's just as fast to read a fragmented file on such a drive as it is to read a contiguous one.)
But overall, this seems to be a very nice defrag utility, especially given that it's free. I'd like to see it respond to user activity--rather than just disk/CPU usage--for automatic defrags, though.

Hey Morningdove, version 3 can now optimize file placement; optimize free space; identify and display individual fragmented files. Great stuff!

Couldn't agree more with Morningdove. If you want something free and better with a flash-looking GUI, get Defraggler. If you actually want the best freeware defragmenter and don't care that its GUI looks like it was designed by a tard, get MyDefrag (www.mydefrag.com). This is okay, but far from special.
