Although I haven't downloaded this program to try it... I'd like to provide my opinion... I stick with vuze classic interface, because of it's many configuration problems... I found in utorrent I had to micromanage the queue of downloaded torrents to insure they reached 1:1 upload/download ratio.

Well,in a head to head test , tixati blows BitSpirit out of the water, no contest. I have tried many bittorrent clients and tixati is the fastest most reliable client I have tried.

Have been using BitSpirit since is appeared out from nowhere. Then somehow BitSpirit wen under the radar, I was sure project was dead so I dropped it in favor of uTorrent, but... BitSpirit is BACK. It is better it is faster it will save the world... well perhaps not, but I'm glad I can switch over to my favorite torrent client.

Like description says, it is fast, lightweight and very advanced. Word of caution though, i have run in to trouble when I had two devices on the same subnet with UPNP. It was my fault in setting up one router, it shouldn't have UPNP on. Therefore if BitSpirit status says that Port Forward has failed, check your network it may be YOUR FAULT and not the software.

Cheers :)

BitSpirit has always been good, reliable and fast for me. A good alternative to ?Torrent since it was purchased by BitTorrent, Inc and has partnerships with many entertainment companies according to their website.

Well, despite this website's lame "Download Now" button which was huge but ironically enough impossible to see amongst the seventeen "Download Now" button ads all over the page, I must say this is some pretty decent software. I'm a Mac guy who has a Mac workstation that he boots into Win 7 for some game dev software and I noticed that there's a huge lack of good Windows shareware out there - yes, there's a LOT of it, but most of it is complete garbage or infested with malware. So anyway, this program is *not* infested with malware (yet) and is pretty decent. My favorite program has always been Transmission, though, so you guys may want to check that out too.

I remember using this before I switched to ?Torrent. It's a great torrent client, but ?Torrent seemed a bit better and was, obviously, lighter in resources usage.
However, BitSpirit is starting to look great again considering that in the last few days ?Torrent has started bundling browser toolbars with their program :(

Hmmmmm reviewed v3.3.3.118 Beta on Mar 1, 2009

Great software, but it needs to address the error message: "Unknown Error! This might be a Disk I/O Error!"

1. Change the error message to be more specific. When the error happens, in the error message bubble, mention which torrent job is causing the error, and what kind of error it is. There are at least three different errors that show up as "Unknown error"

2. Instead of letting the job keep running, have the job paused in an "Attention" state for the user to address the error, by opening "edit job", to see a message saying what kind of error happened, and what recommended actions the user can take.

Place jobs in a paused "attention" state if the job keeps having the same error, to prevent the job from going in a loop.

If the error is from saving two jobs in the same directory, tell the user to rename the directory. Have an option to automatically rename any same directories by adding a number at the end.

If the error is from unsupported characters, strange characters, or undeletable blank characters in the filename or directory name, ask the user to rename the files or folders. Have an option to replace these characters automatically with question marks, spaces, or unicode.

Have an option for the software to try fixing errors automatically by pausing, fixing, and resuming the job, based on the type of error. Put the job under "Attention" if the job can't be fixed automatically.

3. The error can be caused by the router rewriting incoming/outgoing bytes, causing a hash failure, and since the software keeps downloading the same data, the same error happens without it being fixed, leaving the torrent stuck at 99% or lower.

This can be fixed manually by limiting upload count and download count to 1. In the options menu, have an option for the software to automatically set download and upload count to 1 for any job where the error occurs.

When this error occurs, the software should determine which data is being rewritten or incomplete when it comes in, and try to focus on this data by switching to a different peer with good data, skipping or ignoring peers with bad data, or using a workaround to make the router think this is a different piece of data to prevent it from being rewritten. The software could save this trouble data differently with encryption, renaming, or temporary files, then add it back to the job and do another hash check.

4. Some jobs will continue downloading and reach over 100% of the job size in bandwith just trying to get that same data. Data that keeps being redownloaded in this way should be labeled as something that isn't getting through, activating a flag if it happens x number of times or for x duration. Once flagged, if the data can't be successfully downloaded by using any software tracks, then the job should be stopped and the job can be labeled as stopped due to this error.

5. An error can happen if the initial seeder's upload data was modified while seeding- there's probably no way to fix this, but there may be a way to detect incomplete or modified seeds and label the job as a modified seed. Show which files are modified under the file list and if they should be added or ignored. Ask the user if the job should keep the old hash check and ignore the new or modified data, or if the user wants the job to make a new check based on the modified data and save it.

6. Under options, setting the default save path to a new directory will not change jobs that have the old save path, and old jobs will save to the old path. When specifying a new default job path under options, have an option for whether all jobs should be changed to save to this new path, or if all jobs should be left alone.

Each job category could have an option to use the default save path or a custom save path for all jobs in that category.

The options menu could have multiple custom save paths for when the user needs to select a different save path for different jobs, or when switching drives. The "edit job" menu could list these paths to select.

Options could save jobs to custom paths for torrents with errors, duplicates, modified data, or periodic backups.

Advanced options could enable or disable these paths based on triggered events, such as switching to a different path when the default path or drive letter is undetected, or when there is a full disk space error.

The the ability for the user to make custom categories would be nice.

7. There is no way to edit multiple torrents, as selecting multiple jobs and editing will only open one job. Have a new type of "edit job" window for when multiple jobs are selected for editing, which will apply changes to all selected jobs. Have options for changing these jobs to a specified save path, same number of peers, same transfer speed, job priority, and job type. Have check boxes for each type of option to enable or disable which types of changes will be applied to all selected jobs. If the user enables "tracker list" to be changed for all selected jobs, then whatever is pasted in the tracker list is added to all selected jobs.

Once "Ok" is hit, the jobs are processed in order, showing how many jobs are processed out of how many jobs are left total. This process can be canceled manually if it takes too long.

8. Allow selecting multiple jobs when using "Check downloads," and show status on what job is being checked and how many jobs are left to be checked.

9. In the left click menu you can't put jobs that are started back into queue mode or make queued jobs start, unless you stop and restart the job again or hit ok under "edit job."

It would be convenient if a job stopped by the "Stop job if no data downloaded" option was automatically marked.

10. Some jobs take a long time to stop, and take longer when multiple jobs are selected for stopping. Stopping can make the software pause completely, and the software can crash by stopping too many jobs. Have a faster way to process multiple jobs in the background without making the software hang, and show progress as a number counter for multiple jobs such as "1/20" until all jobs are processed, or a status message such as "Stopping..." if this will take extra time. This hanging also happens when editing jobs with large download sizes, even if nothing has been downloaded yet.

11. The delete options under the left click menu should be the same as the five "delete job" options when hitting the delete key. When doing left click it only has "Delete Job Only, Delete Job and Downloads, and Delete All Associated Files" but doesn't have the option to delete just the torrent file or move to trashbox.

12. In Edit Job under "rename", have the current name already typed out in the edit box. Have an option to put the text of the torrent name or torrent file in the edit box to rename the folder.

13. There's an error in the job list where the names group together oddly. Sorting by size sometimes has the list go from small to large and then repeat small to large or have small files on the top and bottom. Sorting by Finished sometimes has clumps of different percentages, repeats from small to large, or completed jobs spaced randomly in the list. Sorting by DL, UL, seed/peer, and KB/s also puts jobs randomly in clumps, appearing in the start, middle, or bottom, or spaced between other jobs, instead of all relevant jobs appearing in one sequential group together.

Highlighting one job and moving up and down with the arrow keys will skip around the list. Editing, starting or stopping a job can make it jump to a different spot in the list. There may be an error with how the list determines order, acting like two lists instead one, like different lists are competing.

Sometimes jobs are shown in either the BitSpirit list or Downloads list but not both, and sometimes finished jobs in BitSpirit and Downloads are not shown in the Downloaded list.

Sometimes the graph and job list will stop updating, but will show an update manually when a job is highlighted.

14. These next ones are optional, and are just an idea you could add if it doesn't make the software too bloated or memory intensive. These options could be shown under "Inspector" and manually run when needed, to check and sort torrent jobs, torrent files, and download data.

Each type of option opens a menu of directories and files that the user highlights, and hits ok to run the analysis, so these are used when needed instead of always being in memory.

Have an option to look at downloads in a directory and match them to torrent files, then report if all downloads match a torrent, check if any downloads don't have an associated torrent, check in torrent and backup directories for a matching torrent file to go with that data as a restored job. Unassociated data in the download directory is temporarily listed in an "unassociated" category for the user to look at after the analysis.

Have an option that could look in downloads for Bitspirit files left over from moving files, or any extra files that don't match up with hash, and prompt if they should be deleted. Highlight data that isn't from the the torrent's job file list, and highlight differently if another job's files are accidentally saving to the same directory.

An option to check if a file or directory has any data that can be added to an incomplete job if the data matches the hash check, even if the job is different. If a new job contains data the user downloaded in an older torrent, ask if the user wants to copy the relevant data, copy and delete the old file or directory, or just delete the old file or directory.

An option could look at what jobs have different download paths, showing them in a list organized by what paths they are using. The jobs could then be selected and changed to one of the other download paths available. Can also make new paths, new custom categories, and edit which categories have what paths.

Have a way to save new jobs as a category, and change the category of multiple jobs. Have an option for whether categories should be enabled for Downloads and Downloaded jobs, enabled for Downloaded jobs only, or ignore categories and don't display them.

An option to enable and disable different torrent file directories and download directories in the case of multiple temporary hard drives being used, where the user may want directories to be active or inactive.

An option to look through and organize saved, temporary, and backup torrent files, check which are no longer used or part of the job list, which ones don't match with downloads, ask if torrent files with no match should be deleted or backed up, and if torrent files in temporary directories should be moved to a permanent directory or backed up, and if redundant torrent files or backups should be deleted.

An option to save and load a custom settings file of options, download speeds, and directories. Settings could be activated and deactivated based on time schedules.

Under options, have a section to type in the user's upload/download connection speed, and use those values if the user enables recommended options including : upload limitation is 75% or 85% of upload connection, download limitation is 85% or 95% of download connection, maximum peers per job is upload speed * 1.3, maximum upload slots is (upload speed / 6) +1, maximum half-open tcp connections is upload speed * 2 or 4.

These suggestions may be outside the scope of this program, or be better for a different program, since Bitspirit is already incredibly fast and efficient, and I'd hate to see too much feature creep if it means the file size and memory will increase or response time will be slower, so ignore these if they harm efficiency in any way.

Thank you for this great program. Keep doing an awesome job.

Fast, simple and easy to use. It gives any other client a serious run for the money, as it were.

My second favorite client out there, and it is working great during tests. It sort of feels faster and more responsive then I remember. Hope that is due to code optimization. I'm very glad that they have started updating this app more frequently, so perhaps it will gain more notice from the torrent community. Raise its profile a little so more users become aware of just how good this client is.

Bitspirit now comes with a half open connection patcher for vista sp1 only downfall is you have to choose to allow unsigned drivers every reboot.

Bumped a notch to 5 because the new version seems to work great, and Azureus has gone all wonky with that VUZE thing, so there is less "unbloated" competition.

I still use Utorrent 1.6 build 474 (the last TRUE Utorrent build, imo) but Bit Spirit is now clearly the best second option, at least for me.

Good to see more frequent updating also.

Best client I've ever used. With BitSpirit my average download speed is 500 kb/s I've never been able to achieve such speed with utorrent. Now that utorrent has been sold to BitTorrent and that anti P2P organizations are behind it I will never use it anymore. BitSpirit is updated regularly and they have a working website, it's just not in english. You should run the TCP/IP patch included with BitSpirit to set a higher TCP half-open limitation value. The patch is located under the Functions tab of the BitSpirit menu. Run the patch, it will tell you the current value of your system, 10 is Windows default, set the new value to 256 (recommended by BitSpirit) and then reboot your computer for the change to take effect. Enjoy.

It's worked well for me -- good speeds both up & down -- I don't really have any major complaints. uTorrent is the main client for my XP and Transmission for the Mac, with fair use of Azureus now and then.

Its site is always down. There is no community or support. We get info of this program only in betanews.

Azureus is 10000 levels higher than Bitspirit.

If you want a good torrent client for an everyday job, Azureus is the answer...

This is the worst software I have used. After setting the preferences the app just locks up and you can't even kill the process (using process explorer 11.x). It just remains in memory until I reboot.

Definitely won't be replacing uTorrent for me.

sooti

been using it for a long time and loving it.

Oh yeah for those of u having slow or not working browsing / emailing etc when using bitspirit. I figured out what's causing it and have found a solution as well.

It will only affect people using XP SP2, there's a limit now in tcp ip that only allaws 10 half open connections per second (connections that are still trying to connect) and p2p programs and bittorent need a whole lot more. It's been done to prevent fast spreading of worms,
Just read up about it here : http://www.speedguide.ne...ad_articles.php?id=1497 download the patcher run it in windows safe mode, enter the max possible value safe and reboot and your problems are solved.

As far as I'm concerned, this is #2 client after uTorrent. And well, you never know what will happen to uTorrent now, after its been bought, that is.

As far as the links for this app concerned... It's a disaster, to say the least.

Actually there is a way to download is FAST-ENOUGH (at like 3kbs): use a download manager, like FlashGet or ReGet or GetRight or any other, The trick here is to simply make it download using more than one thread (the one I'm using has max 8). That way I am able to download this babe at around 3kbs for ~20minutes.

Might be my third torrent client I'll use. The interface is easy to use, and the features are somewhat decent.

Only problem is if you want to view any information on the torrent or update it's current progress you have to click on the torrent. And click it every time you go into a new info tab thing at the bottom.

Also that desktop blob that comes up is a tad bit irritating, but is easy to get rid of.

Managing file download locations and tweaking is very very easy. The amount of flexibility given to the user is lovely. I used both Azureus and uTorrent but in the end uTorrents little problems with partial torrent downloads and Azureus's stiffness with detecting modified incomplete files and no option to mark them with an extension like bt! etc put me off and I was back to my beloved BitSpirit

As someone else has found, BitSpirit's highly suggested use of UPNP simply does not work. That is one of many faults. There are no help files. There is no FAQ that I could find. Forum support is minimal, and with the assumption that all users are geeks. (BTW, I am one, but do not forget that's a minuscule percentage of computer users.) If you're a novice or intermediate torrent user, this is not the application for you. It's highly touted ease of use is far behind at least two other clients I use--and to which I am returning. This seems to be a common problem. I'm having the same problem with Azureus. If I have more than two downloads my websurfing, emailing and internet radio are either severely impaired or don't work.
The Torrent programs are tying up the connections.

Was skeptical. When I downloaded it and ran it it seemed to totally saturate my DSL bandwidth and cause slowdowns on other machines on the network.

Someone suggested I go into the Options, Network Connection and check a box labeled ANTI FREEZE. I did that and all of a sudden, the saturation seemed to stop completely.

I'm not sure what that function does, but now the thing is downloading 60-80k with no problem and is not causing the host machine to lose the ability to browse the internet at the same time, nor is it causing a massive slowdown for the other machines on the network when trying to browse.

This looks promising, at least so far.

Is this supposed to be a "leech" client? Because no matter what I do, this client refuses to upload! It will send a few KB of data and then stop. This of course causes every other client to eventually ban me for not contributing. That is not what I want to do! I spent a good amount of time properly configuring this thing, yet there's nothing I can do to make it upload. I'm not behind a router and I have the proper ports opened on my firewall. Every other peer to peer application I use can upload no problem, except for this piece of crap.

[edit] Oh yes, almost forgot to mention the horribly translated menus. Some of the options, for example in the configuration menu, don't make any sense at all.

THE BEST!

I have nothing but praise for this program. I started out using Azureus, but have always found problems with it hogging 100% of CPU or lots of discarded data from BitComet clients, or some other issue.

It is reliable, fast, easy to use and stable

For all you guys who have WinXP SP2 another way to help get your downloads going quicker is to try the utility from this site. It changes the limit of half open connections from 10.. to whatever you like. I have it set at 100 and my downloads start and work much better thanx to this :)

UPDATE - This new version works great. All those guys that are knocking this program must be working for the competition.

this bittorrent client is actually the best i've tried so far. it combines ease of use with great speeds - this is because it comes with a UPnP (Universal Plug-'n'-Play) which forwards the ports on your router if you have one thus increasing download speed.

before using BitSpirit i tried azureus, which, truthfully, is a really bad choice even for high-end-computers. The memory usage is simply a waste..

in BitSpirit you can actually CHOOSE how much memory you want the program to use for the downloads (yeah that's right, the people posting before me had -mostly- no idea what they were talking about because the program adapts to your ram, unless you set a fixed amount).

Cheers to the developers of this fine application.. i really hope they continue the maintenance of this program!

oh, another advantage is that the program has NEVER ever crashed since I've been using it - a good few months now, since the beginning of february.

Well I have to say that I am impressed by BitSpirit!
I have to mention that I mostly download large Linux distros and other very large files for my friends (because my ADSL is very fast and I have a good DL DVD burner). I tried Azureus and it was a horrible resource hog, so I said goodbye to it. Original (Bram Cohen's) BitTorrent is nice but not configurable. I used BitComet for a while. It is nice but it can use up to 80 megabytes of RAM (no problem, I have 2 gigs but I do not like when something uses too much resources). There are two disadvantages of BC which made me sick - the download was pretty slow (v.0.57 and up) and BC cheats on upload, I can call it an antileecher client (in fact your upload is much higher than it shows).
I also tried Opera's 8.02 TP1 client. Too simplistic.

GimieGimieGimie

GimieGimieGimie reviewed v3.0.0.087 on Jul 14, 2005

After trying a number of Bit Torrent clients, including BitComet,ABC,Tornado, and Azureus, just to name a few, i've finally found the perfect BT client.

BitSpirit is definately my choice of client, the program is stable, takes little resources (compared to Azureus), packed full of features, including the ability to select individual files from a torrent (which is the most important feature i might add) and best of all, Bitspirit is one of the FASTEST clients in terms of download speeds.

The only program that could match Bitspirit for download speeds was Azureus, but Azureus is based completely on Java, and even running the latest version of Java, consumes a massive 50-60mb to run, and with Azureus at 2-3mb, that's a total of 53-63mb to even START the program, let alone the massive increases of memory consumption when downloading multiple files.

The other problems with the other clients was either a lack of features (ABC), or the download speeds was pathetic which leads me onto the biggest flaw of BitComet.

BitComet was my preferred client before i started using BitSpirit 3 weeks ago, BitComet i found to have the fastest coding, and the nicest interface of all the clients, not to mention low resource usuage.

The only reason i looked for a new client was simple, BitComet's download speeds are awful, the most i ever got on a single download was 30Kb/s and i'm on a 1Mb line.

So i was forced to download multiple files at a time just to get the bandwidth i deserved, even running 5 downloads, only got me an average of 10-15Kb/s on each, and this went on for about a month before i finally decided to try other clients.

And then i found BitSpirit, which i am happy to inform you is at this moment in time, downloading 2 files for me at speeds of 50Kb/s each, with a memory consumption of only 40mb ram.

Now that's more like it, as for corrupt files, i've been downloading non-stop with BitSpirit for the last 3 weeks, i have downloaded about 15 individual files, all of different formats, all of difference sizes, and each download has finialised flawlessly.

I have no idea what these other guys are talking about when they say BitSpirit corrupts their downloads, i can definately vouch for the program that it hasn't with mine and i've downloaded 50GB + so far.

So don't take my word for it, give the program a go yourself, if you're like me, who is disappointed with either your current download speeds or system footprint of your current BT client, then you will appreciate BitSpirit.

i'm using bitspirit since yesterday and i need to say that it works better than my azureus. i was using azureus from a few months and only sometimes i had a maximum transfer on a single torrent.
i have a 256kb/s internet connection and azureus offers me on some torrent files transfer ~5kB/s but on the same torrents bitspirit works with 30kB/s. it's not the problem with azureus configuration or number of seeds/peers.
i'm looking for some options in bitspirit:
- move downloaded files to the other folder
- fix the percents in the "received data"
- maybe some options from azureus like "country", detecting download/upload speed with a single peer/seed
- possibility of priority of downloading files almost done or downloading first part of a file (i.e. to previev video file with videolan or something like that)

btw: i'm using bitspirit 2.9.0.098 released 2005-06-17 (i found that version using google). no one mention that this version exist

If I can't download something, occasionally I find it downloads on Azureus (and this is probably my fault with the settings) but I find Azureus eats up my CPU so I stick with Bitspirit. My poor 800MHz CPU can still download 15 files at a time and watch a movie too.

It downloads where I tell it to. The speed caps seem to work fine. And depending on the torrent I'm downloading, I can adjust the upload/download to get great speed. My only suggestion would be tooltips when you move your mouse over something, to explain more about what a particular option does. Oh, and fix the percentages. The only reason I do not give it 5 stars is the weak torrent search mode. Only thing that stops me from giving it 5 stars is that azureus has a few extra features that bitspirit does not (support for plugin for ip filtering for instance) and a few other minor things.

I have to state though: Please, please, please, focus on the core functionality. I mean, I have never used an embedded web-browser or chat-client and do not intend to do so in the future.

Here is a link to the .TORRENT file for the Beta2 version if the dload link is still saying that the user bandwidth has been exceeded...

http://www.infohash.net/download/bssetup.torrent

(oh by the way...this proggie is kew and you obviously need a bit.torrent client to do anything with this link).

The menu bar has been replaced with a side bar thing that looks a bit like the common task pane in XP. I'm not sure how accurate the total bandwidth numbers per torrent are, and the speed glyph seems to be off. I've got the speed glyph set to a scale of 10KB/s, and I've seen some of my torrents hit around 80KB/s, but not once did the glyph max out. The new version 2 is a bit more informative about torrents and clients than version 1, but this program could use a decent help file to explain all the features.

IMHO BitSpirit is the best BitTorrent client for what is one of the worse file sharing networks. The things I like in BitSpirit are the ability to control how much of your bandwidth is used and manage multiple downloads. This helps killing your internet connection. However I have one big gripe with it: anything more than a couple of active torrents kills your machine with phenomenal memory usage and extremely slow network access (even through a LAN).

tries to access drive a: resets network configuration but very nice interface, options and user friendly with frequent updates.

For the people saying a cap on the upload rate isn't a good thing: BT uses the maximum amount of bandwidth it can for uploading. Without a cap, my download rate is close enough to zero that it makes my the Internet useless while BT is running. It's not really "sharing" when my computer is being used to send the same 1% of the file to a bunch of different people while I'm not getting anything downloaded onto my own computer. Programs like BitSpirit are awesome since finding out how to change command line parameters can be troublesome for a novice.

Before this download the newest Linux ISO was a pain and took forever even with my SDSL (768k) or Wireless (400k-1.5MB) connections...
Now I snag the full Mandrake ISO set in a couple hours (still nothing like my 3-5MB connection at work, but great for home).

kaks, Flemens:
I am so glad you rate this program down because it allows people to cap their uploads when the offical BitTorrent client does the SAME THING. Being that you live your life in a WYSIWYG world I guess you have not taken the time to read the BT docs or check the command line options.
--max_uploads
the maximum number of uploads to allow at once. (defaults to 7 )
--max_upload_rate
maximum kB/s to upload at, 0 means no limit (defaults to 0 )

In the future please do not rate a program on what you THINK you know.

It is a great program... however, IT IS SLOW!
You will get blazing speeds if you happen to connect to others using bitspirit, but connecting to others using the normal python bittorrents, well...
After 2 hours:
Download: 12meg
Upload: 600meg

Something not right there.

nice look but really slow and and it takes about 70% of cpu. use burst instead, it's really fast and can do same job without nice buttons.

One of the best looking apps out there and certainly the best looking BitTorrent client - now if only I could get it too work!

sorty

sorty reviewed v1.0.9.249 Beta on Nov 10, 2003

While I like the GUI, for some reason, this client is A LOT slower than the "Burst!" client which uses a variant of the original Python source (and yes, I fiddled with the various parameters quite extensively).

zyfos

zyfos reviewed v1.0.9.218 Beta on Nov 5, 2003

Great program with a nice interface. Lots of nifty features such as being able to kick connections, pausing certain files within a torrent, etc. The main thing I didn't like about this program was that it sometimes killed off part of a download when restarting a torrent. 5% on a 1.4 gig torrent is quite a bit to make up for. The BitTorrent Experimental client was a lot more reliable than BitSpirit, tho not as feature rich.

AGZ

AGZ reviewed v1.0.6.48 Beta on Oct 15, 2003

The GUI takes this program up, no problems on starting and running this program. And easy settings and instructions but in the readme it says that the search function is missing. So that's one minus but it's only one beta that i might by full version of ?

and with 1.06, I can get more detailed information about each peer

LouCypher

LouCypher reviewed v1.0.6.48 Beta on Oct 14, 2003

Great features but the program suffers from a memory leak that increases over time to a point where it just locks up. If that gets fixed this will be the BEST BT client.

sjc001

sjc001 reviewed v1.0.6.36 Beta on Oct 13, 2003

Then tell it not to delete after transfer.

What I liked was the fact that one could set the default download AND torrent directories.

wonko

wonko reviewed v1.0.6 Beta on Oct 12, 2003

So I start downloading a torrent, and what does BitSpirit do? It immediately deletes my entire downloads folder AND my entire torrents folder without prompting me. That's not what I'd consider a useful feature.

CharredPC

CharredPC reviewed v1.0.5 Beta on Oct 12, 2003

If the author could add Torrent Search into this program, it'd be absolute heaven. Roughly like Kazaa, but much better technology. Nice GUI, though I still prefer burst! Perhaps it's just habit, though ;)

sorty

sorty reviewed v1.0.5 Beta on Oct 12, 2003

I like this client, it allows you to resume torrents at a later time, which is a major issue with the standard client.

The GUI is very similar to FlashGet, but it's a bit confusing and there are still a few bugs I'd like to see fixed (mailed the author).

It also has a bit of difficulty starting several torrents which the "Burst!" client didn't, but that was with the 1.0.2 version, perhaps they improved it.

kaks

kaks reviewed v1.0.5 Beta on Oct 12, 2003

i agree with u my friend :)
allowing people to cap their upload sucks big time.
same with allowing them the number of uploads being 0.
it kills the idea of sharing. i end up uploading more than i download.
got p**sed off and dropped my upload to 2kb/s.
i was uploading at 16kb and downloading at 1.5.
from like 60 peers.
wtf? :)

Flemens

Flemens reviewed v1.0.2.18 Beta on Oct 6, 2003

It´s generally good that you can tweak things, but I´m afraid that giving people chance to cap their upload makes bittorrent go the same way as edonkey, meaning that it will take days to get the [big] file down. To bad, bittorrent was the fastest p2p-client so far, and I downloaded good quality films with it....weel it was fun as long as it lasted ;)
