CATraxx 8.10

Publisher's Description:

CATraxx is a powerful database program designed to help you catalog and manage your music collection. CATraxx will let you catalog all media types, including CDs, LPs, cassettes, mini discs, and MP3s. CATraxx supports CDDB - the worlds largest music database. CATraxx has a comprehensive set of data fields for both albums and tracks, enabling you to catalog a wide range of information: artist, album title, media format, release year, label, catalog number, purchase price, current value, music category, playing time, song titles, songwriters, producers, recording studios, musicians and instruments. You can store an image of the album cover, attach a MP3 file to each track, and add your own personal comments for both albums and tracks.

Latest Changes:

  • Audio: Attach: In the 'Attach Audio Files' window you can now specify whether the program should attach audio files to all albums, marked albums (the subset), or the selected albums in the Album View. This is useful, for example, if you have an album on b
  • Audio: Attach: There is a new 'Exclude folders already in database' option. When this is checked, the program will simply skip all folders that contain audio files already linked to the database. This can greatly speed up the scan process
  • Audio: Auto-Organize: Instead of selecting whether to process all albums/tracks, the subset, or the selection directly from the menu, you now select this in the 'Audio-Organize Audio Files' window
  • Audio: Auto-Organize: You can now use only the year part of a date field by adding "_year" after the field name. For example "%album.released_year%"
  • Audio: Auto-Organize: If the album contains more than 9 discs, two digits are now automatically used for the %disc#% field
  • Audio: Auto-Organize: The file date is no longer modified by default. If you still want the program to set the file date when renaming files, open the 'Audio File Options' window, click the Misc tab and check the 'Modify file date when renaming file' box
  • Audio: Read from Tag: There is a new 'Compare dates' setting in the (new) 'Read from Tag' window that will instruct the program to compare the file date against the Tag Read field, and only read data from the tag if the audio file has been modified since
  • Audio: Write to Tag: There is a new 'Compare dates' setting in the (new) 'Write to tag' window that will instruct the program to compare the Last Modified field against the Tag Write field, and only write data to the tag if you have edited the album/track
  • Audio: Added a Goto Folder command on the Audio menu in the main window, the Album Edit window and the Track Edit window (you can also use the Ctrl+F2 shortcut)
  • Query Internet: Cover download: The image dimensions (width and height in pixels) are now shown in the list of available covers
  • Query Internet: Added amazon.co.jp to the list of available sites (both Vinyl Query and cover download)
  • Database: Added Genre and Sub-Genre fields to the Playlist table
  • Database: Added two new fields to the Play History table: User and Computer. When the play history is updated, the Windows user name and the name of the computer the track is played from are now stored in the Play History table
  • Database: You can now search, filter and group on the Play History (play date), Play History - User and Play History - Computer fields
  • Data Entry: Set Field Value: You can now specify whether to process all, marked or selected records from the 'Set Field Value' window

It looks nice, but the trial version has a limitation of only adding 50 albums in the database, so I can't test the speed of the program; and speed seems to be the biggest problem with huge mp3 collection (30000+), so I stick to Advanced MP3 Catalog. But stupid that the develpers don't let us try the program under normal conditions.

A very nice music organizer. I have already tried many of similar apps and come to the conclusion that CATraxx is the best. What I like most of all in this program is that it's totally customizable. At the same time I have noticed one very serious drawback: CATraxx doesn't support Cyrillics as well as other non-English alphabets as I suppose. Unfortunately FNProgramvare are not going to improve their software from this point of view.

@Dark...I think that if you wan't to pack so much info and detail regarding a cd album, you do have to be a little bit complicated. You can't avoid that, unless you want to stay poor in the feature's field. It might be a bit complicated at first, but it's very easy to use after a while and truly powerful.....@drummerjoe...the program is aiming towards the cd market mostly. I think it's unfair to rate it with just 1 star just because it lacks Ogg support. What about all the others that offers?!

CATraxx is a bit too complicated to use. I strongly suggest checking out Music Label 2003 for your cataloging needs. The one advantage CATraxx has over it is the sheer amount of information you can add.
