CCextractor is a tool to extract closed captions from DVDs and TV recordings and produce a .srt file. It takes almost any video file (DVD, capture with a video card, Tivo...) and produces a .srt file (subtitles) from the embedded closed captions. CCextractor is extremely fast, it's free, and it comes with source code (as well as Windows and Linux binaries, and a OSX build script).
