Well, this browser has officially gone to crap. First of all the main reason for using it instead of Chrome was the tabs features of being able to open bookmarks into a new tab, which ChromePlus no longer does. To make matters worse I no longer have any of my plugins or settings. As of today I have gone back to Firefox.

Somewhat older base yet a very good browser.

I'm starting to like this browser. Much better than SRWare. It's what regular "Chrome" should have been, i.e. without all the privacy invasion and unnecessary files and folders littering the user directory.

Swiffer, you just like the sound of that, right ? You can't be taken seriously, since your arguments are terrific but missing entirely.

This is everything I ever needed in a browser. Light, extremely fast, no official Chrome tracking and annoying autoupdate tools included, has mouse gestures, adblock (granted, not very good yet, but you can always use the excellent Adblock + for Chrome extension).

And the icing on the cake is that it handles external links passed by outside software correctly, as opposed to Srware Iron, which used a different profile when handling external links.

Oh, and by the way, the included download manager is great. It's multithreaded for insane download speeds and can be set as the default downloader. For links that dislike download managers, you can hold ALT while clicking on a link and it will pass it to Chrome's default downloader.

It's not as good as the official Google Chrome browser, but then cheap quality knockoffs never are.

Input Overload

Input Overload reviewed v1.5.2.0 Alpha 1 on Dec 31, 2010

This has all the things that I ditched Firefox for, I like to choose which ad blocker I want etc. This release is more unstable than I am, Imaged back to latest Chrome on 'Dev' channel.

With the price of large drives at almost giveaway prices I don't care how big a browser is. Add up all the Firefox & IE hidden folders within Windows & you will see Chrome is OK.

ghostrider951 reviewed v1.5.2.0 Alpha 1 on Dec 31, 2010

This actually a bit behind...................if you go to the Chromeplus home page they have just today released Alpha2. To find it on the home page look in the forum. I have used Alpha1 and now using Alpha2 and like it very much. Its based on Chrome's version 8.0.552.

TC17

TC17 reviewed v1.5.1.1 on Dec 15, 2010

I do like this ChromePlus. Its like the SRWare Iron Browser that has taken out the Google spyware. You can also download a Winapp2.ini file off of the CCleaner website forums, so you can use CCleaner with ChromePlus.

Apparently ChromePlus is based off of the Chromium Browser (which is newer versions than Google Chrome is).

Edit: After trying this more, it seems to have bugs. Firefox actually is faster in my opinion. The only problem I have with Firefox is it has some bug where it crashes on me a lot.

Some reviews are just plain stupid. This is not spyware, if you did a complete reinstall, well, says something about your ability to give a competent review. I was using this, than read Google Chrome 7.0 had security and flash upgrades so went back. That did not last to long as even the standalone download took over 100 mbs of disk space. No big deal in today's computing world where 250gig hard drives are only on the medium size for a hard drive. But if you are using an older machine with less than 100gigs, 100mbs is a lot. My download was 102gigs before add-ins or even using the browser. That is more than twice as much FireFox, Opera, IE 8. My question is why the heck is Google Chrome so bloated and with what???? ChromePlus is a cool browser, I have read AdBlocker is rendering very slow but I haven't really noticed. Being Chromium based though it is still lagging once you start to open tabs. Firefox though slower to start up will flat out fly by Chrome when the tabs start to be opened. Still if you have Firefox and wanted another browser based on something besides Gecko, this is a great choice. Opera is a good one also but no matter how much I have tried, I just can't gear into the interface and user intensive involvement to have a browser that looks and performs like it should. Besides the lack of quality add-ins for safe browsing and effective ad blocking are a serious omission that limit Opera. Security questions raised about ChromePlus? Well practice the safe browsing lessons you have all probably read and you should be cool. Only say should, because name any piece of software you can positively say is crack or hack proof. I should say that Opera does claim to have adblocking functionality as well as site rating built in. This could be, I couldn't get the handle on the ad blocking program. Though I didn't read all the help and stuff, since I just wanted to surf not learn programming. And call me paranoid, but I prefer third party security tools as opposed to those that come pre-bundled within a browser or OS.

The speed of Chrome with essential add-ons that I was using in Firefox. Seriously, it comes with Adblock, Super Drag and support for IE Tabs. Could you ask for more? No doubt, but it fits my needs. Also, many Greasemonkey's scripts work with Chrome too. Fantastic browser.

I've been using Google Chrome as default for months. Just for kicks I downloaded Chrome Plus the other day and was pleasantly surprised. To me it's a fine tuned Google Chrome. However, I'm not ready for the Alpha just yet. I'll wait a while, as I'm enjoying Chrome Plus 5.0.

As for FF and Opera, to me they're things of the past. I've used both of them extensively in the past, but they seem bloated, slow and dated.

@robo: Clear to cite your claim? That is a serious accusation. If try, I certainly wouldn't want to use it. If not true, this looks very useful.

Here is what seems to be an unbiased article about this Chrome variant: http://thepcsecurity.com...ogle-chromeplus-browser/

Conclusion the author makes: It is good in features, but there is some concern how far it lags behind in security updates. No mention of spyware.

This is based upon Chrome 5 and has a lot of added features such as mouse gestures, tab control, ad block, etc. Much better than the original Chrome, even when adding the extensions to it. Also, ChromePlus is the fastest browser I've tested.

Zenphic

It works fairly well to me. It feels like Chrome with the extensions you'd probably want included out of the box: adblock, mouse gestures, IE tab, super drag, etc. It's much less of a hassle to get ChromePlus than Chrome + installing extensions afterwards.

This is a very promising shell for Google Chrome. I fell in love with it the moment I started to use it. Well-done, ChromePlus developers!

They have just updated ChromePlus. It's now 1.2.5.0. Found a great review here: http://www.chromeplugins...ome-8431.html#post16119

I use it and have had no problems at all. It doesn't feel bloated at all. They added just the features I want (minus AdBlock) without a full extension system. Awesome! A big thanks. Re-opens just as fast as Chrome standard.

If you don't want IETab or MouseGestures, use regular Chrome. This specialized build is for those that really like Chrome, but have relied on Firefox+IETab because they have to go to Outlook Web Access, Sharepoint, etc.

Lets see... taking a bare bones browser designed to be bare bones for speed, security, and functionality and adding a bunch of garbage to it for what? to turn it into an ordinary over bloated browser again?
Nada for me.

Sammo

I thought that I would give the latest update a chance because the last version would not display any pages at all. The same thing happens with today's release. This program is just plain junk. Don't waste your time. Either get the official Chrome or Firefox. Stay away from ChromePlus until it can properly display pages.

cltx99

cltx99 reviewed v1.2.3.0 on Sep 16, 2009

I use chrome 4 on all of my computers as default. I don't bother with FF or Opera any more. Chrome Plus is just fine, but why change? I like it, but I'll stick with the original.
