DirectX SDK contains updates to tools, utilities, samples, Documentation, and runtime debug files for x64 and x86 platforms. This release also include a public pre-release of Microsoft Cross-Platform Audio Creation tool, Managed Direct Code (2.0 CLR), and Direct3D 10.
It also continues to include the DirectX Runtime and Redistributable.

It includes it in the redistributables as well too...and for Windows XP! Interesting...

Old command-line trick still works to get it to install on unsupported systems.

To get this to install on any version of windows, browse to the temp install folder it extracted the files to; and run
msiexec.exe /i "Microsoft_DirectX_SDK.msi" OVERRIDECONDITIONS=1
MS left an override for the install conditions inside the installer, very un-microsoft (I was expecting to have to rebuild the installer).

Edit: Install package is fine, it's just that the SDK does not install on win98 anymore, only winME & up. BTW the websetup for the runtimes did install, afterwards confirmed some files have an updated december date.
FYI to all you 98 tweakers: could not get the sdk to install by changing winver to ME in both msdos.sys & registry; hexers will have to step up to the plate.
This package is arriving corrupted no matter what browser, download manager(or not), file host(ms dx home, fileforum, etc.).
The only reason i submitted to the humongous(& excruciating download) was to check out the DX 10(Tech Preview) also included.
