Microsoft DirectX is a group of technologies designed to make Windows-based computers an ideal platform for running and displaying applications rich in multimedia elements such as full-color graphics, video, 3D animation, and rich audio. It includes security and performance updates, along with many new features across all technologies, which can be accessed by applications using the DirectX APIs.
This is the DirectX Web install.

Only the Web Installer is currently available. People keep posting links to older versions, like the June/08 one, or the Aug/07, or even the Feb/08 version. The full installation files may take up to a week or so to show up at MS.

Oh that's hilarious. When I try to download this, Microsoft tells me my copy of Windows isn't valid. Silly Microsoft, I already paid you fools!
