DAP is not a good download manager because it corrupts the downloads. It downloads files over the file size, 99 MB file goes 102.23 MB. DAP is a UNRELIABLE Download MANAGER (UDM)

It does work but it also installs stuff you did not ask for like a file shredder and it is not easy to uninstall, felt like a kind of malware in the system. Go for Free Download Manager, it is gentle and easy on the system and works. And no distracting and annoying ads flipping around like crazed adrenaline biomorphs.

I have two major gripes about DAP:
    * it's adware, which pretty much rules it out of my system.
    * all build I ever tried were unstable. It would eventually crash at the least opportune moment, without me ever figuring out the pattern. I don't know if they ever rewrote this application from scratch, but I'd suggest they do.
I really can't recommend DAP at all, especially when there is so many alternative around with better offers (and I mean pretty much all of them).

Let me make it very clear that dap has no spyware/malware/trojans etc etc......as told by reviewers b4 me!

its a perfectly fine application...with all necessary features...

Yes,dap does display ads but not by accessing some dangerous sites...but from its own installation folder........try any decent anti-virus/spyware and you won't find any un-desirable stuff in it!

I agree it is advertiser-supported which is embedded into the application across a bar at the top. No mal-ware (adware, virus, jokes, bots, pop-ups) were installed by the program. Sorry but ad banners are just that, pictures with links to a website and not software which causes pop-ups, email bots, virus deployment, keyboard loggers, url motinors, etc.

Program does what it says it will do and does a pretty good job at doing it for the free version. If you cant stand the advertisements then buy the Premium version without the advertisements. I saw only about 10% - 15% increase over my normal download speed on compressed files which is why I gave it a 4. May work its 400% speed improvement on uncompressed or weak compression files.

You mean recognition as DAP adware objects after running a spyware scan? Ahh I suppose ought not be so hard on it, especially as this version supposedly really doesn't have spyware, but I lost my trust in it long ago. Reviewed previous version 7.512, not the 7.515.

I have gone back and fourth with support on many issues with this product, and they are totally ignoring any problem. I therefore must agree with the other reviewers, there are plenty of alternatives. This product, while good, has many problems. It doesn't support many websites for multiple downloads where reget and flashget don't stutter on the same sites. I like it because its seemless and it has a nice interface, and I have used it since 5.5, but every since 7.0 came out, I have ceased using it. I hate the fact that its a foreign product. Europeans are notorious for very poor response and support.

Its too bad, because this product could be a lot better, if they would simply follow a few simple logical fixes. Alas, they will not even ackknowledge the problems, so if this if your first Download Accelerator, get something else. If you are trying this as an alternative, you might be happier where you are. This product keeps shooting itself in the foot with each subsequent release.

Best UI among the leading download managers. I give 5 stars for the UI and stability (though HTTPS is still not supported and FTP browser is still not fully working). But the only complain is about the intrusive and irritating adware. The ads were tolerable pre version 7. I think Speedbit should consider re-structuring the adware part. Not only will it increase the user base but encourage more people to buy it.

    Reviewing 7.2 (Jun 28, 2004)

The support for this program is abismal. The program itself was designed well, however implementation leaves much to be desired. I tried (futile attempts) to make them understand simple english for a problem I had, and they kept asking me stupid questions, things I already mentioned in previous emails. The behavior for this program, is vastly different than other programs in its class, and I have several documented incidents that this program did NOT do what it clearly was designed for. They actually told me to set my download to "Normal" speed to fix the problem I was having. Yeah, great advice.. now its the same as a "save as" in explorer.. why do I need this program if it doesn't accelerate the download? I registered this program, that's 30 bucks I will never see again, or make good use of due to the pathetic nature of this program. My advice use ANY THING *BUT* this worthless software. Getright, Reget, Star Download, Internet Download.. are much better than this program. I worked (if you can call it that) for weeks getting this group of people (not giving them any credit for technicians, they are no better than 1st year college students learning computers) to do just one thing. Actually recreate my experience. I gave them detailed instructions, access to my account for a download, and even told them they could get whatever they wanted for free... They wouldn't even *try* to see it from my perspective. I may not be the best, but even I know if a customer calls and says they have a problem.. and they give you the ability to reproduce the same error, and they won't even give it a moments notice.. That's the time to move on to something else. Just when you think this program works well, that's when this program will "gotcha". It will fail, and the sad part is.. there is no help. They basically don't care to help. So, take it from me, this program works.. but when compared to other programs, it doesn't even come close to measuring up.

I have tried the non-beta version of DAP on three different people's Windows 2000 boxes and it had similar problems to my own machine... Intermittent crashes. For the mean time, i'd prefer to stick to a download manager that has a high level of stability. However, this is a product with great potential.

I have always been a fan of DAP from its early days (it was simply Download Accelerator back then) I have seen the changes over time and like the improvements. My last version of DAP was 5.0.0.1 which had "High Accelerated Speed" for registered users. Well this latest version (5.3.9.6) offers "Super Acceleration Speed" and what seems to be the newest addition... "Extreme Acceleration Speed" - Whoa. This connects to the download source a maximum of 12 times (so long as your registered). Other visual differences are the new skin they use now to keep the XP feeling for the 21st century! Havn't seen many other changes apart from the integration with the new DAP Drive... and FXP method of downloading your files to a your own DAP Drive location. Overal, just keeps getting better. BTW no problems with red X's here neither.

Tried to d/l this ver 5.3, but dap poped up indicating already had the file, then wanted to rename a mirror, then got mssg the d/l was actually a html file and should open a separate browser, browser would not d/l so selected the link on browser if it would not d/l.

Excelent program. User friendly and easy to custom to your own needs and resources. It gets even better when you get rid of the ads by purchasing it... I give this one a GO

This is basically a great program. I have struck one major problem though. While it is downloading my browser slows to a crawl. I use a 56k modem.

Just for you to know - they made "Always resume" a feature that allowed you to resume downloads from sites that doesn't support resume - a paid service !!
besides that the program itself is still good.

    i've heard that's a spyware in DAP 5.0.
I've installed it, and i've scanned my memory, registry & harddisks with Ad-aware 5.5
    I found no spyware
If someone can tell more about that ...

Download Accelerator 3.5 was a Gold version as far as I am concerned. It did what it said it was going to do and that was it. The more recent versions of DA are filled with ads and add an icon in my task tray that I would rather not see. DA 3.5 did not do any of that. I am glad I kept a copy of that burned to a CD which I cherish to this day. I have seen a downfall in it's performance on DSL versus Cable modem though. It doesn't seem to exceed it's capabilities like the cable modem did. I miss my cable modem!

This program definitely speeds up downloading on some files. But it does no good when the file is corrupt after downloading.

Sometimes it isn't corrupt, but many times I have downloaded large files only to find they are corrupted. This program has serious problems.

I have been using this program since build 3. VERY nice, seems to do better for me than GetRight did. Download speeds are very nice, and I especially like the way you can customize the way it downloads, and add extensions (like ISO). Works great under Win98SE, Win2000, and WinMe.

well.. this program is.. ~aiight~ The speed doesnt seem to accelerate at all.. and i dont see much diffrence in speed... and it doesnt have an automatic reconnection thingy... so, it's not rilly worth dling. The only good thing about it is that you can continue ur download from where u ended from. If ur comp turns off, it will still be there to continue... If u get disconnected, it will still be there to continue. So, get it for that reason only, because there is nothing really good about it.. -PjK-

this is better that GoZilla! GoZilla is good, this but this is better. Downloads are fast (way fast). It shows that you don't required a gimmick (the roar) to be good!

i think that downloading utilities are helpful for low bandwidth connections and when using the ie browsers. but frankly speaking, if people have / use ff or pale moon on a dsl or higher bandwidth, downloading utilities are not necessary, imho.
