FairUse4WM will extract the personally identifiable information (description keys) from Media Player for the purpose of allowing the user to improve the interoperability of legitimately acquired media files. At least one file with an active license is necessary.

Instructions: To actualize fair use rights with the new IBX, first run 'mirakagi' which will enter the IBX keys into the FairUse4WM blackbox-keys.txt text file. Next, you should use the attached version of FairUse4WM, 1.3Fix-2. This includes an important fix for a video corruption bug, often seen in scenes affording high compression

  • Latest Changes

    - New tool for uncovering the individual keys from Microsoft's DRM blackbox components ("IBX"), up to version 11.0.6000.6324

    - Capable of interfacing with both Windows Vista and Zune software versions

I can't seem to get this to work. =/

It crashes on my Vista machine.

I recently upgraded PCs and dealing with the DRM has been a pain (all 100% legit music as well). :(

In the app, the title bar is 1.3 fix2, so it's the right version.

Does what it says on the tin... in seconds!

I see references to fairuse4wm version 1.3, but all that I can find for download is version 1.0.3 -- is this the same thing?

If it is, it is no longer working. It used to work, but now I get a "requires a different key" message.

    Advice?

It worked great for me for a while, but once I upgraded to WM 11 started to have problems with it. Overall it worked great though.

I've got to give it 5 stars, not because I condone what it does, but because it does what it says - it works.

And yes it does work with WMV too.

Regardless the fact that I don't use this application at all I'm giving it the highest mark, because I hate DRM technology which has the following shortcomings:
    * No expiration set, though even author's rights expire
    * Data is entirely lost if you lose your key
    * You cannot create backups free of DRM

DRM 'manages access' in the same way that jail 'manages freedom.'

It's really annoying how many programs which describe themselves as working on "Windows Media files" are really just for Windows Media AUDIO files. This worked fine for me on WMA files but not at all on protected WMV files.

This is a truly great program. It'll de-drm an entire album's worth of DRMed music in about 20 seconds, losslessly. And unlike the previous DRM crack that was availible, it will work with the latest WMP updates including windows media player 11!

It also flawlessly removes DRM from WMV files.

    Awesome awesome awesome!

Awesome. This will not last and will one day only be a faint memory in computing history.

    Get it now!

It removes the MS DRM version 10 and 11 from protected music files. For example Napster.

So you can play them on any OS etc.

I've heard it works 100%. Get it now before MS get on the phone to their lawers
