I've been using web.feedreader.com but the options are nil under opera.
use ".\feeds" or whatever name you want for the FR subfolder (enclosures download dir).

Feedreader is the best nonjava RSS read out there.
RSSOwl is current #1
magOwl reviewed v3.14 Beta 2 on Feb 28, 2009
The best desktop rss reader imo, there's a bunch more going on then what first meets the eye concerning filters and feed managing. The only reader that gives it a run for it's money is RSSOwl, but that one still needs to iron out lots of kinks. The only negative thing I have to say about Feedreader is that it's memory usage is quite high at times, although it seems to have improved slightly with this release.
anomoly reviewed v3.14 Beta 2 on Feb 27, 2009
This OR the stable version is way better than greatnews. Feedreader allows for a direct connection and gnews does not. Plus this gui blows gnews away with it's much cleaner gui.
Update openssl and good to go

anomoly reviewed v3.13 on Feb 27, 2009
FeedReader's ability to establish a direct connection instead of just your default browser settings makes it twice the ap greatnews is just for that reason. Gui is also much cleaner.
Noticed however that openssl was outdated (0.9.8.4). Latest is 0.9.8.10(j)

Blah. Whoever the staff member at Fileforum was who marked this as a 'staff pick' is, obviously hasn't seen GreatNews.
anonislis reviewed v3.12 on May 1, 2008
Excellent, easy to use and fast.
The only problem is that the rating function is totally buggy.
dannriebe reviewed v3.12 on Apr 23, 2008
I just upgraded the program from the earlier version and it wiped out all of my existing feeds, some of which I'll never remember where I found them. I'm saddened by this. As for the program itself, I have no complaints.
zeeZee reviewed v3.12 on Mar 25, 2008
1 problem. no button to refresh rss menu. you have to right click in a "neutral area" to bring up right click menu. get a button. then a 5.
agapecpus reviewed v3.13 Midrelease on Mar 17, 2008
I liked all the features of this program except for the memory footprint. I would average 90-125 meg when open which for a RSS reader is ridiculous. I found it slowed my system down to a crawl once I exited all back to normal. Try GreatNews; all the same features with only a hit of 35 meg open 2 meg when in the tray.
Opie reviewed v3.13 Midrelease on Mar 17, 2008
It's not a bad program but everytime you allow it to update, it wipes out most of your RSS feeds. You then have to reenter them manually.
digitalking reviewed v3.12 RC on Jan 27, 2008
Thought this program was good, but did not quite match up to the GreatNews reader. They both almost look identical, it just seems the GreatNews reader is smoother, and has multiple CSS styles to view your feed in. GreatNews has low processor usage also. If you like a basic newsreader that does what it says it does, FeedReader is the way to go.
anomoly reviewed v3.12 Alpha 3 on Jan 10, 2008
The BEST!
Installs as a portable ap if you like and has tons of rss feeds to subscribe to by default which makes it perfect for someone (like me) who never rss'd before until a few days ago.
As well, everything is user customizable. No skins though.
McAleck reviewed v3.12 Alpha 3 on Jan 10, 2008
A lot cheaper? It's free, pal. And damn good to boot. The more I use it the more I'm convinced it's the best feed reader there is. True, there are missing features that would make it even better, but the key bits are in there, including some very smart creative features. And unlike in other feed readers, of which I tried scores, there is practically nothing bothersome about it. After months of desperate searching for the right headline reader, I've found one. Uhhh, this sounded like an ad but I do mean it.
guti reviewed v3.12 Alpha 3 on Jan 10, 2008
Now that FeedDemon 2.6 is freeware, I see no point on using FeedReader... Unless of course, you are an open source lover.
McAleck reviewed v3.11 on Jan 9, 2008
It has its shortcomings, like all feed readers, but arguably the best out there.
anomoly reviewed v3.11 on Dec 30, 2007
This is the ONLY one I see which seems to work near flawlessly. Feeds connect without proxy but opening them connects via proxy which means I must use my browser to actually read them.
Adding a site's feed worked perfect.
AND it will install as a portable ap.
Thefastlife reviewed v3.11 on Dec 26, 2007
Dunno, but since 3.11 i got an error occuring by any action i wanna make. placing feeds, subscribing some, anything....
is saying me:
"internal error occured in program
internal gds software consistency check (can't continue after bugcheck)"
help would be great!
ninjeratu reviewed v3.12 Alpha 2 on Dec 19, 2007
"State-of-the-art", eh?
I don't know about that, but I like this!
It's basic - in a good way. It's light and, frankly, the features I want and need are there. Nothing more, nothing less.
A very nice touch was all the (20+) language files included.
I just wish I could change the keyboard shortcuts. I don't need to change fonts because I like it the way it is (but it would be a nice feature).
If you like FeedDemon (or liked it before it was sold to NewsGator) you will probably like this. A lot cheaper too.
digitalking reviewed v3.11 on Nov 28, 2007
Easy to use. Free. Organizes nicely. Quick to load feeds. It automatically updates all feeds but it allows you to manually by right-clicking on All Feeds and selecting update. Great program. Adding new feeds is simple. Just click on a feed and it loads into Feedreader. I have about 40 feeds, and this never bogs down my PC.
sDegen reviewed v3.11 on Nov 26, 2007
It's really a very useful application!
But I can't understand why it uses more than 96MB of memory?!?
For that reason I seriously consider to use another product...
zeeZee reviewed v3.11 Beta 4 on Oct 30, 2007
i am giving it a 1 because of no refresh all feeds button. unacceptable. and it refreshes them real slow. i purchased feed demon. the best.
zridling reviewed v3.11 Beta 4 on Oct 24, 2007
Wow, this is so simple it's useless. Doesn't touch GreatNews. Better off using Opera's built in reader, which does tons more.
horsecharles reviewed v3.11 Beta 4 on Oct 24, 2007
I'm giving it a 1-- not able to download any warez with it....
Just kidding.

Feedreader, you make me happy each. day with your abundance of news and small size. You are my best friend. Lets make out.
Zebbie79 reviewed v3.11 Beta on Aug 17, 2007
Love it, even better than FeedDemon and GreatNews (which I used before).
dhry reviewed v3.11 Beta on Aug 16, 2007
Freeware or not, FeedDemon v1.5 (NOT the newer versions) kicks this program's azz.
bartowick9 reviewed v3.10 Beta (Update) on May 17, 2007
the best reader i have seen yet....highly configurable. good looking and lightning fast.comes with news popups too and sounds....highly recommend for news junkies and and people who like the news delivered to their desktop...five stars!!!
thewickedflea reviewed v3.09 on Apr 2, 2007
Absolutely awesome. Dunno about memory problems since I have 21 feeds and only 16mb of memory use. My dad happens to use it as well and has 9.9mb for his 6 feeds.
Excellent customizability, stable as a rock, and slim enough that I can play the roughest PC games without a slowdown due to FeedReader.
hunterb reviewed v3.09 on Mar 23, 2007
Very customisable, but the minimalistic interface makes it difficult to do some things (ie. how to exit some screens). Consumes 60MB RAM for 9 feeds - which i think is a bit much.
dsilvertx reviewed v3.09 on Mar 22, 2007
I'm using 3.08 right now and have found it to be small, efficient, feature packed and easy to use. I've tried several other clients before but find this one matches my needs without having to carry around the extra fluff that others force you to have.
Robertst reviewed v3.04 on Jun 16, 2006
I've used FeedReader for several years now, and enjoyed the continuous improvements of the free product. However, I'm very disappointed with the new version 3.04. The user interface is very sparse. The body of news items is provided in a hardly readable grey small font. And the recogniseable feed icons (which where actually the favicons of the concerning websites) have been replaced by 1 icon. Why? Why leave the good spirit? Come on guys, you can do so much better!
marcooni reviewed v3.01 on May 20, 2006
Excellent easy to use reader, ideal for a first timer who doesn't need all the bells and whistles. Simple interface. The 'minimise to system tray' feature must have been remedied as it works well.
dkratter reviewed v3.0 on Apr 23, 2006
This is a decent product, but really shouldn't be considered version 3.0. Its more like a 0.9 that is *almost* ready for release. There are plenty of bugs to be worked out still, even though they're relatively minor and are more of an annoyance than real issues.
TheClifster reviewed v3.0 RC1 on Apr 19, 2006
Excellent..simple and easy to use...minimise to task bar as a an option rather than having to set close = minimise and then click close would be a nice touch.
allan0r reviewed v3.0 Beta 3 on Mar 20, 2006
Great little rss reader. Easy to use and small footprint. But an option to minimize to system tray would be great!
war593122 reviewed v3.0 Beta 3 on Mar 19, 2006
Junk, tried for 15 mins trying to get it working. Nothing works at all. Nothing. Never updates and clicking new feed from file menu does nothing. Manging feed and clicking update feed does nothing. I get an error when save options too.
So pretty much the software is wrothless. Too bad. :(
bur[n]er reviewed v2.90 on Dec 22, 2005
Best I've used for Windows. I really love the "Unread Headlines" smart view. This is the one feature I was missing from my linux PC.
My only problem is being able to click the lil rss icons in firefox to load the feed into feedreader.
mrmagik reviewed v2.7.646 on Sep 20, 2004
text parsing works fine in the latest version, i have yet to come across a better RSS reader, very quick, small and nice to look at :)
Moparx reviewed v2.4 GPL Alpha on Jan 28, 2003
ive been using this for a bit now. its a great app that does what it supposed to quickly. not to mention i love apps that have a small file size :)
jamesgarner reviewed v2.4 GPL Alpha on Jan 16, 2003
Well.. actually nice. Displays Headlines... display webpage when dclk headlines.
i would find it more useful if the text would be parsed automatically.
nice prog
