Intel Matrix Storage Manager provides software support for high-performance Serial ATA RAID 0 arrays, fault-tolerant Serial ATA RAID 1 arrays, high capacity and fault-tolerant Serial ATA RAID 5 arrays and high performance and fault-tolerant Serial ATA RAID 10 arrays on select supported chipsets using select operating systems. It also provides support for Intel Rapid Recover Technology, AHCI Native Command Queuing for increased performance, matrix RAID for two RAID volumes on a single array, and an improved user interface for enhanced usability. This is the software that enables Intel Matrix Storage Technology.

Did it occur to you there is a significant price difference because RAID is more expensive to implement and support? *facepalm*

If you wanted AHCI, you should have bought a board with ICH*R. You cheaped out though, and got what you paid for. And it's not like Intel isn't known for crippling its products deliberately (VT, for example? :P)

Still no AHCI support for ICH9 base chipset. Intel needs to stop making end users pay through the nose just to get a feature (AHCI) that should be available on all Core 2 motherboards ever released. There is a significant price difference between motherboards using a ICH9 base chipset and motherboards using the ICH9R chipset.
