Kantaris Media Player 0.3.6  beta

Publisher's Description:

Kantaris Media Player can play almost anything you can throw at it - AVI, MPEG, MGEG-AVC, WMV, MOV, MKV, quicktime, matroska, divx, xvid, H264, MP3, WMA, OGG files and more. It can also play DVD's and audio cd's. The player also displays some of the most beautiful music visualizations ever seen. All this is completely free.
It is based on code from Videolan client (VLC) and Bass audio library. The graphical user interface is similar to that of Windows Media Player.

Not bad, based on VLC source, with same format support, and maybe a better used interface.

Is simplicity is in your mind, VLC would be a better choice. For novice, maybe Kantaris is a good option.

For pros, concerned on efficiency, better choose MPlayer.

They just took VLC (a great player) and built an ugly, slow and rather buggy GUI for it. Of course throw in some junk like Apple trailer support for good measure. Visualizations? What year is this, aren't people tired of those yet? I mean I thought they were cool in 1998 but even then I got bored with them pretty quick.

Much better players out there, VLC of course and Media Player Classic, GOM Player, etc.

I had to try it to see if it was that bad... (System Restore Point of course).

Don't bother. 'nuff said. With several awesome free mediaplayers already available just how many do we need?

Start with VLC and KMPlayer for two good players primarily with internal codecs then try Zoom Player and Media Player Classic.

Despite the fact that I bought MCE 2005 because I'm a videophile I really don't use WMP11 or Media Center as there's too many issues with non DVD-Video.

I just recently tested Vista x86 and Vista x64 and I was shocked at how poor video and game support is. After considerable testing and searching for ways to optimize fully I came to the conclusion that there's no point testing again until after Service Pack 1 is released which I'm assuming will fix most of the poor video performances.

Yes, Vista will improve and eventually will be better than XP in most ways but it really was released prematurely (late and premature at the same time).

I guess what I'm trying to say is don't bother releasing a program like this unless it's comparable to what already exists.

in the meantime it is possible to use drag & drop to play files within the player and the installation routine also asks for file association (audio/video) - this could be more specific.

basically it's a stripped down version of vlc. There's not much more than play and stop. Probably works for the majority of users.

3 stars because I cannot see the necessity/specialty of the application.

this piece of software sucks... crashes like hell and for the few options that it has... it's not fast responsive and fast playing.
and about the visualizations... they are not original, does Sonique player ring a bell?
