I try new software on a daily basis. Legitimate software that is. And my free AVG antivirus and antispyware has not caught anything for more than a year. Paying for an antivirus is just pointless.

All to well even. Anyone who is really serious about the system security, would never use Kaspersky. It's a pop (popular culture) product, for teens (getting infected from warez) and for pops (infected when surfing for porn). With Vista, Windows security layer has matured enough, for anyone who is serious enough and willing to learn about the Windows securiy infrastructure, to be able to secure their system from most common threats, without the need for 3rd pary products. There is no need for an additional security layer (for Kaspersky). If you know how to deal with what Windows can offer in terms of security, then you are much better off without any additional products, which would bring their own bugs (every software has them) to your system.
