Maxthon is a powerful web browser with a highly customizable interface. It is based on the Internet Explorer engine which means that what works in IE, works the same in Maxthon but with many additional efficient features like Tabbed Browsing Interface; Mouse Gestures; Super Drag&Drop; Privacy Protection; AD Hunter; Google Bar Support; External Utility Bar; and Skinning.

The Combo version of Maxthon includes More Plugins and Skins than Standard version.

    Best Browser in terms of Memory Usage- Maxthon v1
    have been testing browsers to find the one that works best for an older computer. Not a difficult chore for anyone. Simply run your selected browser with a similar selection of resource hungry websites open and watch the memory usage in Windows Task Manager. Maxthon V.1 is consistently the lowest memory usage. I noticed Maxthon has a selection in the advanced options to allow for memory management, whatever the reason it's by far the fastest IMO. Features are good but perhaps not the best compared to Maxthon 2 or Opera. In order of rankings by memory usage, Maxton 1, QT Web, Maxthon 2, Opera, Firefox, Internet Explorer 7, Google Chrome. My tests were not comprehensive but proved to me Maxthon was best.

    Finally they added the build number to the exe file. No more grabbing 'msetup.exe' to find it is the same as your currently installed version, as has happened often (even from Maxthon's own file server).

    After doing a system recovery from an unrelated happening on my computer. I thought, well I'm just going to use the Maxthon 1 for a while.
    So doing a first time install on a fresh XP-sp2 home system was interesting, BUT I can't read Chinese. That's what I got while doing the Maxthon 1 install. Having to guess what to click on to get the next window & the plug-ins were unreadable, it felt very odd. Wrecked my nerves.
    Then after installing it, every little thing that can be added to the toolbars was activated, every selection was on that thing.
    It took a long time to get the browser looking and acting like I wanted. A lot longer from my other Maxthon installs.
    The official download should be like it was before. English....

    v1.6.1.50 appears to be Chinese only. Last English version appears to be 1.6.1.22

    @McAleck,

    Also had problems.
    Uninstalled/reinstalled ;
    went over the donation window on second start up then everything seems to have fallen back into place.
