The scan.exe that is included is indeed a Win32 program. What I was talking about is Scanpm.exe, which is a DOS program, so it can be executed in real DOS. Btw, for those who are interested: You CAN run the new 5000 engine in pure DOS using the HX 32bit DOS extender. A little bit of tweaking is required, but yes, 5000 can be made to run in pure DOS. Tested it in FreeDOS 0.9

Very efficient at the size. For those who are comfortable with the command line, this is quite at home!!! BTW, what is the DOS compatible thing everybody keeps saying, The scan.exe is a Win32 (console) EXE !!!

The super dat is excellent. Database size doesn't matter though. F-Prot has over 200,000 entries yet McAfee and Kaspersky who have about 25% less signature entries both do better in independant testing. The detection ability has little to do with database size in numbers. Generic and heuristic technologies in engines has a lot to do with this. Consider NOD32 threatsence engine, Kaspesky's excellent generic detection signatures, Normans Sandbox etc.

Ok I take back my words- McAfee doesn't have the biggest database around, the mantle now goes to Kaspersky. On the other hand, McAfee is still excellent cause its probably the only full fledged A/V that can work in DOS, and is still useful for emergency removal of those nasty virii that can't be removed from Windows. Besides the new scan engine is expected soon which would (rather should) knock the socks off the competition.

Mcafee ticks me off now, no support for x64. But they still make a good AV product.
