MPC + ffdshow is still the best combination for me. Small, stable and simple interface.

As others have mentioned, this program used to be at the top of the heap of replacement WM players, but now it's showing it's age and other players such as The KMPlayer have totally eclipsed it in terms of functionality and stability. Why don't they increment the version number (the NORMAL way to designate a new version) instead of keeping it and changing the "build date" instead? Time to move on from MPC, I'm afraid..

I find MPC to be more stable, than MPC-HC. MPC-HC however, has more advanced settings, for those who need them.

I agree, which is why I've switched. the torch has been passed.
FOUR stars for a groundbreaking proggie that has slipped into second place.

MPC is a great player, but I have to say that MPC HomeCinema is a lot more stable.
