Meetro is radius and proximity based software. Untechnically speaking, it finds like-minded people around you. It also has multiple IM network support so you don't lose contact with your old friends on other networks. It also generates buddy lists based on proximity so when you enter the program you get two buddy lists: Your AOL, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ list and an additional one based on who is nearby.

Reviewing 1.0.1570 Beta (May 3, 2007)
installation worked fine. it installs a driver C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\Ndismeetro.sys and the casual startup item. (monitored by ghost security appdefend and regdefend)
however registration buged me totally. in opera it failed (may be because of my input) in kmeleon it worked.
these fukas want not only my myspace password but also my gmail account password so they can spy on my gmail adressbook and use my gmail acount to send spam (an invitation) to one of my "friends" there.
i am not kidding you!
they would however allow me to UNselect all of my gmail "friends" from beeing spammed.
it is possible to register without giving them any password and without sending spam to someone else but fakehead@fakemail.com
but since i got errormessages the first time i actually tried giving them a valid gmail password. stupid me. (on my opera try which failed anyway)
one star for bullshiittiing me
of cause they hide the option to delete my account from the account control panel. if that is an option.
i spyed on them too:
i have managed to browse their interface with a different browser using the url http://www.meetro.com/client/dashboard . that link does not seem to be availabel from meetro.com. there is not much point in using a different brwoser, exept you can right click, so you can copy urls, eg from their FAQ.
quote from faq:
Is Meetro spyware and ad-ware free?
Yes, really! Believe it or not, we hate that crap as much as any of you! For the skeptics, however, specific details about 3rd party disclosures are available in our privacy policy http://www.meetro.com/privacy.php . Also, please run some form of Anti-Virus software. It's vital if you're a Windows user. A great and free for personal use software is: AntiVir http://www.free-av.com/ quote stop.
nevertheless this software is usable. it is not totally evil. just as evil as every mainstream thing.
(btw, i do not even have outlook like reviewers below)
edit: i uninstalled it, rebooted, but that Meetro NDIS Protocol Driver (ndismeetro.sys) was still running automatically. i could manually "stop" it using pserv, then uninstall it. so it is not a crasher. seeya on next reboot.
edit 2: here i am.

I use zonealarm security suite and arovax shield but had no email issues or any problems at all.It installed fine and loaded up fine.I just have no use for it,cause i don't want to meet anyone from online ,even if they are in my area...
but it does what is listed..no problems here.

Reviewing 0.92 Beta (Jan 5, 2006)
When I tried to install this program, it tried (according to my firewall) to open Outlook Express and the firewall process itself. I refused it permission to do either, and it seemed to install OK. It didn't try the same thing at program run, and once it was running, it looked promising. I would be interested to hear from the developer on why it attempts what it does during install. Unsatisfactory answers or no answers will leave me no option but to steer clear of it and advise all my friends to do the same. A shame, as I liked the tool itself.

No one in my area signed up, so not much for me to look at. So far it loaded ok and installed fine. Just not much to use right now.

Still needs more work.
I found that it took over a minute to connect to the servers on startup.
Suggestions:
- Speed up startup connection speed
- Needs a plugin to disable/enable simple GUI
- Better compatibility with MSN/AIM
