Virtual Earth 3D brings you another step closer to knowing "what it is like out there". You can search, browse, and organize local information viewed in three dimensions, just the way it exists in the real world. This enables you to more effectively find the data that is relevant to you, making Live Maps more useful than ever.

A major negative issue is the fact that the "Birds Eye View" is showing pictures that are at least 4 years old (they're still showing a car I sold 4 years ago when I look up a particular address). Topography changes too often to use something that old.
Navigation within the tool is too slow and sloppy. I stick with Google Earth for now.

This is cool and 'lorg' is a fool. Even on the MSFT download page system requirements include FF >2.0

For all what it's worth:
Microsoft Virtual Earth 3D runs just fine with Firefox. Just restart your browser after the installation .
No need for IE !!! (that's what I like about it the most ;)
And no, it isn't stand alone program, in fact is no need for a stand alone program.
No local saving of countless MBs of maps like in Google Earth...just open the live search page in Firefox and you're on
