Windows Defender is a security technology that helps protect Windows users from spyware and other potentially unwanted software. Known spyware on your PC can be detected and removed. This helps reduce negative effects caused by spyware including slow PC performance, annoying pop-up ads, unwanted changes to Internet settings, and unauthorized use of your private information. Continuous protection improves Internet browsing safety by guarding over 50 ways spyware can enter your PC.
The worldwide SpyNet community plays a key role in determining which suspicious programs are classified as spyware. Microsoft researchers quickly develop methods to counteract these threats, which are automatically downloaded to your PC, so you stay up-to-date.
- Note: If you have version 1.1.1592.0, you must first manually uninstall Windows Defender before you can install this newer version. To configure or remove the existing version, use Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel.

since the past 2-3 years it never detected ANY spyware nor other stuff tht has been loaded on the system or registry. Even though an app released by MS (who better understands their own os!?), yet such worthless results. How am to remove this from vista, rather then just turning it off!? .. its a complete waste of space!!

I have become a bit of an X64 freak. The fact that more drivers are available doesn't hurt. I've already tried this on another system, and it works well.
Reviewing 1.1.1592 (Nov 9, 2006)
The only spyware available for Xp64, others work but don't know if they protect all aspects of a 64bit system.
