Mozilla Thunderbird is a redesign of the Mozilla mail component. The goal is to produce a cross platform stand alone mail application using the XUL user interface language. The intended customer is someone who uses Mozilla Firefox (or another stand alone browser) as their primary browser and wants a mail client based on mozilla that "plays nice" with the browser.

Reviewing 2.0.0.22 (Jun 25, 2009)
I have a couple of webmail accounts from different service providers, yet I just can't imagine letting go of my favorite desktop mailer. I've switched a long time ago from the ubiquitous Outlook Express to Thunderbird, and I never looked back. Yes, the UI is not exactly attractive, but it gets the job done and that's what ultimately matters.
Reviewing 2.0.0.21 (Mar 18, 2009)
The product works well and has come a long way (although very slowly) since it bundling days with the original Mozilla. However, I have to admit the UI is less than attractive. We now live in the iphone world (looks are put above functionality) and it's time TB stepped up to the UI challenge.

Fantastic application but it looks like extensive abilities of webmail now are taking it's toll on what used to be a necessity , the traditional email client.
Using gmail anywhere anytime with calendars and multiple pop3 accounts flooding into it with a strong as an ox spam filtering , the future of email.
Reviewing 2.0.0.19 (Dec 30, 2008)
I use .18 currently, can't find the .19 build on the Mozilla site. The only beta I see there is the nightly build, 3.0beta2. That seems to work OK here.

mjm01010101> you're right about the fact that Thunderbird 2.x has some long standing issues.
However, tb it is far from abandoned, with 3.0 on tracks, and some alphas already kicking if you dare trying them (they're called "Shredder" for a reason). Mozilla has even created a separate legal entity to support thunderbird development. So yes that's a long time since the last major version, but the www.mozillamessaging.com guys are catching on. Just give them some more months...
