Mozilla Thunderbird is a redesign of the Mozilla mail component. The goal is to produce a cross platform stand alone mail application using the XUL user interface language. The intended customer is someone who uses Mozilla Firefox (or another stand alone browser) as their primary browser and wants a mail client based on mozilla that "plays nice" with the browser.

Reviewing 3.1.20 (Mar 19, 2012)
@DoHickey: This program deserves 6 stars for not allowing animated smilies in mails.
Reviewing 3.1.11 (Jun 22, 2011)
I stopped using this program a long time ago.
Unless they have made it so animated gif's will work when inserted in email, I have no interest in it. I at least want to be able to add an animated smiley face on my emails.
Reviewing 3.1.6 (Oct 30, 2010)
Themes, themes, themes!! Some of the themes for Thunderbird, (like Simple Green) actually wreck Thunderbird so that it won't even start up. Thunderbird will simply deny the installation of most of the themes, but allows others, even though they too are too old and incompatible.
At this point I think Walnut is the only theme that works well. It is a very nice theme for Thunderbird.
Reviewing 3.1.5 (Oct 20, 2010)
So..Despite my settings for all of my mail accounts being set to "Start replies ABOVE quoted message", this version changed that setting to below. I realize that die hard *nix users prefer this from back in the good old days, but I prefer to have my message start at the top. Changing this setting arbitrarily for the user is a bad move. Do not alter user settings when upgrading.
