Mozilla Thunderbird is a redesign of the Mozilla mail component. The goal is to produce a cross platform stand alone mail application using the XUL user interface language. The intended customer is someone who uses Mozilla Firefox (or another stand alone browser) as their primary browser and wants a mail client based on mozilla that "plays nice" with the browser.

Great email client. Probably mostly obsolete with today's ISP's using mostly web based email, but if u can use it, this is probably the best.

As I seem to be within the "intended user" group I have re-tried TB, it has been a few years since I last used it.
Well I am a little amazed, as we are on version 7 now, it is like a trip in nostalgia as it looks exactly the same as it always did. Whilst I appreciate that, hopefully, much has changed under the bonnet, the interface is still as ugly as it always was.
I still find Windows Live Mail desktop version to be much easier to use and better able to insert and manipulate photos into my mails. The same applies to other aspects of the client.
It seems that I was expecting more from TB than it actually delivers. I was probably fooled by the version numbering and the fact that it has been several years since I last used it.
Maybe for some people it meets their expectations but sadly for me it just seems tired and dated.

TB is a great email client...However, Check out Postbox...Based on TB and Lightening works all the time...

Awesome email program, getting better and better with each release.
Be warned, there is currently no version of Lightning that works with TB7
