don't know exactly, but it doesn't cause any damage, so simply update with sp1 first, then with sp2. takes just a couple of minutes

I couldn't update my Office XP when SP1 came out because of that "3/4 of the way error", but now it seems they have addressed that. Updated w/out any problems (that I can see so far anyway). Thanks again, Micro$oft. Can't wait for Office 11.

I created this nice instruction sheet for those people that have a hard time understanding microsoft's slip scream update on their web site on how to update Office XP to SP1. I used it and it worked great!!!
1. Uninstall Office XP
2. Whip out your Office XP CD and create a shortcut to the setup.exe
3. Edit that shortcut and add /a to the end like this setup.exe /a
4. Now use that shortcut to create an admin install point. (I used G:\OfficeXP)
5. Now it will ask you for the key and what not during this process. (this is good as once you create the install point you don't have to enter the key ever again)
6. After creating the admin install point you should have a directory with 7 files and 1 directory called files
7. Now download (if you haven't already) Office XP SP1 - Admin version (yes it's about 40 megs but worth it)
8. Run the admin update and point it to a directory you can create. (I extracted my files to D:\oxpsp1)
9. Now open up a command prompt and enter in this information (remember D:\oxpsp1 is the SP1 files and G:\OfficeXP is my admin install point. You might have to change these to match your computer)
"msiexec /p D:\oxpsp1\MAINSP1_Admin.msp /a G:\OfficeXP\PROPLUS.MSI SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE /qb /L* G:\oxpsp1.log"
10. Now you can burn the contents of the admin install directory to CD and then install Office XP SP1 with no problems
11. Go have a beer!
This should work fine for everyone having install problems.

Using the 39 MB Admin update instead worked perfectly! I am now burning a new Office CD with the SP1 intergrated into it. Thanks!

spenstar the corporation edition that i am using has a serial starting with FM9FY is this the version you had? If so can you confirm that it works 100%? eg loads all applications?

The SP-1 still doesn't work for me. I have reviewed the installation log files and it stopped at MSACCESS.EXE. I think it is because the file size is different form the expected one. My MSACCESS.EXE is 5,768,608 bytes and the installer expect 5,773,640 bytes. Can anyone confirm this ? Anyone has MSACCESS.EXE with size of 5,773.640 bytes.

Applying SP-1 also works on pirates copies alias "corporate edition" :)). SP-1 was tested on both pirates and original CD installation or installed from \\server.

It really is discouraging that so many people can have the same error (Error 1328) during installation but Microsoft hasn't addressed it on their website. It reminds me of the dissapearing email that initially plagued O2K2 when it was released..:(... Also, does this release fix the problems with the Outlook Rules wizard not sorting mail properly?

I wonder why what I posted before isn't there anymore .. hmm... interesting.
Anyway, the link NYS posted doesn't do anything for this situation. I don't even have Web Components instealled on my computer, nor is it listed in the Add/Remove Section of the CP - shoots that down. The fact that 90% of the people who responded here are having a problem with the patch, makes me weary - either we're all lying and have pirated copies or MS really *DID* screw something up - you be the judge. Damn it, I hate being right all the time. :0|
