Reviewing 7.0 (Nov 12, 2001)
Is everyone else as sick as I am of companies (or FileForum?) listing a product as freeware when it's not? Now, I did not give this product a try, so those of you that are interested in it be aware that I'm only critiquing it's listing here on File Forum, not it's capability or effectiveness as an application.
There are many reasons that shareware/freeware status oversight (or deception) stinks, but here are the two on the top of my list:
1. Years of bad experiences with Win95 and 98 have made me gunshy about installing software just to play with it. If it's crippleware I'm just not gonna keep it. If it's Freeware I might give it a go, if I'm interested enough. Now I run XP, and I have a lot more confidence in it as an OS, but I still don't want to uneccesarily install apps only to find out they're crippleware/shareware and then be forced to uninstall, with the possible complications and left-over files. BE ACCURATE PEOPLE! IF IT'S SHAREWARE THEN SAY SO.
2. I'm lucky enough to have a high-speed connnect. What about the poor guy that is still on 56K? He spends 20 minutes downlaoding 4 MByte only to find out that it's not, in fact, Freeware.
Can I get an AMEN FileForum users?
