BETA (July 18, 2008)

Windows (All) / Freeware / 620 downloads

PassX is a simple tool that will allow you to generate completely secure passwords for Windows. You can either create passwords randomly (being any size, include special characters, force stop certain characters, etc), build a password from a string (a sentence, or names, or anything you want) or build a password generated from a list of words that you have specified (which can be customised for how they are used). All settings created can be saved and re-used later to create more passwords and the passwords generated can be saved to a TXT file. You can create any number of passwords you wish and they can be used on other operating systems other than Windows (Linux, MAC-OS, etc).

  • Latest Changes

    - All settings are now saved in settings.xml (uses true XML to save all settings within the program)

    - Fixed a massive fault that caused the check items to appear white on certain Windows OS's

    - Added the brand new 'Check For Updates' window (which is used as standard Troupware software)

    - All document saving and opening functions now use true XML (old saved documents will no longer work, sorry)

    - You can easily tab between the sections by using shortcut keys (see the menus)

    - Moved all section selector menu items to a new sub menu called 'View' (makes more sense)

Nice gui but where are the special symbols? Can't get anything but letters and numbers? Yes gave me spaces but that is of rather little use.
Still using PwdStr v1.3 (bulgarian, deutsch, english only)

which now automatically analyzes password strengths upon generation and can therefore filter at 100% strength. Quite nice as long as you don't need to install .net.

great. I've installed every version of dotnet with every update(incl 3.5) and now this won't 'install'.
Apparently either this is not compatible with .net 3/3.5, or dotnet is not backwards compatible?
Now I know why lots hate dotnet. It took me an hour of reg cleaning to remove version 2 and 3 of dot net. They would not uninstall worth a you know what.
In any case sourceforge has a version called "password strength analyzer and generator".
It analyzes creates and manages them using, you guessed it, dot net v2. I think it's better than this one simply because it is very straightforward.

I like this software. It does just as it says it would. Markymooo you obviously didn't test the software fully. If you want ascii characters built into the passwords, then simply use the "build from string" tab where you can enter your choice of the characters to use in the generation of passwords. Alternatively, on the main build from random tab, you can include whatever characters on the "characters to include" line as seen in the demo image above. I suggest you fully test software in the future before you give it a rating. I like this one. It's a keeper.
