Plaxo is a tool that enables you to automatically update your address book in Outlook and Outlook Express. Immediately after you download Plaxo, you will be prompted to choose which people from your address book you want to get updated contact information from -- you can choose as many or few people as you like. It sends a simple email message to each of these people, showing the contact information you currently have in your address book on them and requesting them to correct the out-of-date information. The replies to these emails are processed by Plaxo and automatically inserted into your address book. You will receive notifications as the update replies come in.

As your friends and contacts join, you will be automatically kept up-to-date -- no emails necessary. Once it is installed on your computer, you will notice the "Plaxo" menu item in the Outlook top menu bar. The Plaxo Today panel gives you access to a variety of features from within Outlook. You will be able to send more update requests, edit your cards, send your own information updates, whenever you wish.

Plaxo supports Outlook 2000, 2002/XP, and Outlook Express 5, 5.5, and 6.

Excellent program. To have all my contact information stored safely online and to have it constantly synched together with my outlook contacts and calendar system is fantastic. They have one of the best privacy policies I have seen.

This is actually a very good software, helps you to synchronize your local address book on Plaxo's server.

Unfortunately they do not support Mozilla Thunderbird yet. Sad...

I have used Plaxo for a bit and it seems ok. However, I did come across another company www.icnlink.com that has the same functionality. I am also told that icnlink has a patent on the technology to update information using the internet. icnlink has software for PDAs as well as email clients.

I would be wary of "free" programs that dial home.

I have Plaxo installed since the Outlook Express fix. However this morning I ran a full test on PC Pitstop and I received the following spy/adware warning: Full Path C:\WINDOWS\PLAXO\120~1.19\INSTAL~1.EXE Our running programs database has the following information about the most likely source and function of this program. Description:
Xupiter. Recommendation: DISABLE AND REMOVE. This software is known to cause system instability and/or compromise your privacy. I hope that Plaxo will reply to this!
