Process Lasso (x32) 3.61.1 Beta

4.1 out of 5 stars 4.1 (501 votes)

BETA (July 1, 2009)

Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008, Windows 2000/2003/2008/Home Server/Vista/XP / Shareware; $14.95 / 31,089 downloads

Process Lasso improves system performance, responsiveness, and stability during high loads through dynamic adjustments to process priority classes. It can also automatically terminate undesired processes, apply default priorities and CPU affinities to processes, limit the number of instances a process can have, and log all processes. It is not a task manager replacement, but does have task manager like capabilities to compliment its primary functions.

Process Lasso is free for home and academic use, though there are some tolerable nags for the Pro build shown after the product has been installed an extended period. The free build is not in any way crippled. Commercial use requires purchase within 14 days of evaluation. Despite being free for home use, it is now classified as Shareware to prevent any user confusion or complaints.

The start menu shortcut working directory fix was only for a couple facilitating shortcuts that are very rarely used -- not for the main program shortcuts. They broke for a couple builds, and the rarity of their use caused them to be overlooked. Anyway, I shouldn't bother correcting that.. after all, it was a review of the change log, lol.

If it's still in the need to fix "Fixed working directory of start menu shortcuts" ..... I wonder how much of the app itself actually works....

I'm liking this program so far. Detailed provision of information for that curious ocd side.

I haven't seen a whole lot of improvement yet, but I do see a lot of utility. I have not seen any degradation in performance, which is a plus in and of itself.

This is the only software that I will look for an update every single day. This software is just amazing, and finally the feature I had been waiting for long time Jeremy has finally implemented, which is excluding a process from foreground boosting (this is really a crucial feature, more important than CPU affinity i guess). I can give you an example why this feature is needed, ICQ 2003 beta from my memory, will be freezed upon foreground thread priority boost, same as the Chinese Sina UC chat program. This process also makes my computer possible to install 3 or more antiviruses on a single CPU chip, without losing too much computer speed !!! Definitely can install 4+ antiviruses on dual core CPUs. Jeremy, you don't really need to listen to other people like saying that your software is a bloatware, because they obviously don't know what they are doing. In order to understand whether this program works, one would really need to play around this program and play around the settings.

Basically, Process Lasso is a VERY VERY light weighted software. I have tried several other similar softwares, but they really cannot achieve what Process Lasso can achieve. Basically, Foreground Process Thread Priority Boost is unique, and cannot be found in other similar type of softwares. One software called "Process Priority Master" which claims itself to be the best, I have tried it myself but it's nothing but just a bloatware, a real example of bloatware. It takes like 30%+ CPU in the background all the time !!! Jeremy never claims his softwares are the best, because Jeremy has a good and professional attitude, which we all should learn from him. I can tell, no other similar softwares up to the current date, performs better than Process Lasso.

This software is NOT crippleware. 99% of the features in the Pro build are also in the free build. If you take the time to look, you will see this is true.

This program is crippleware. I would rather use a lesser program than a crippled program.

    to your post us3r:
you rated the software with two and speak as if you never tried the software for yourself - talking only about that the price is too high for you to effort and not even mention a free alternative (cause there is no). I really wonder what those commends should cause, why and for what ?

This program doesn't offer much more than similar tools which are completely free, yet author want almost 20$ for a copy whether you are commercial user or home user or student. The life time license doesn't speak to me since I remember the development of these application stopped like for two years around version 2.0.
