Real Alternative will allow you to play RealMedia files without having to install the official RealPlayer. You do need a media player that is capable of playing RealMedia files. The included Media Player Classic supports it. Supported are RealAudio (.ra .rpm), RealVideo (.rm .ram .rmvb), RealText (.rt), and ReadPix (.rp). Not fully supported are: Streaming smil files (.smi .smil) and Realmedia embedded in webpages.

The Lite version does not include Media Player Classic.

    Great idea by providinging only the codec.

    One caveat though, several file version of this package are older than the ones from the official Real Player package. Had to reinstall the official one then do manual file update one by one. This installer also makes it worst by not preserving the original file time which makes manual file update a bit PITA. Even though I installed the official package, I never use the official Real Player because it sucks big time.

    BTW, the RealMedia format seems to be very popular in Asia. Many video clips are using this format.
