@Achauhan...I believe that You can choose in which folder the Splayer downloads the subtitles, and You can easily manage them form there.

After GOM Player added tool-bars & ads in the actual program I investigated S-Player ~ It excellent & does all I want with no bundled ad-ware whatsoever ~ If you still use the MS Media player do yourself a favour & dump that bloated slow & bulky player ~

Great find ~

Excellent player!
Better, faster, uses less CPU than VLC
Has tons more options than Media Player Classic and VLC combined!
Best interface hands down of all players I've tried.

Only problem is, when you start it, the same dialog pops up, over and over and over again; "SPlayer is not your default player", even when you check on "Don't ask me again", it still pops up... and its starting to become annoying! (even thought it is my default player).

Other than that, its the best player out there!

There has been no change in the latest version as usual, I had to UNINSTALL that it lacks many things. Although it is very fast and plays everything.

I keep waiting for a fuller version like other players, bsplayer or kmplayer. Looks much wasted potential.

Good: The player is very Fast and very compatible with all formats
Bad: Is a Toy player with almost no options and with many errors

Because of it's invasive behaviour I wouldn't touch this thing again with a ten foot pole.

I'm only rating it again because of the suspicious reviews by people here who have reviewed only this product. Add to that the fact that their very website has a "what users are saying" section with a review from right here on fileforum that I simply don't see

The very good player but I think it still needs to improve some things. These are some of the things I see that you would fail to get 5 stars.

Bad:

- Subtitles. srt direfentes seen with size, very uncomfortable
- The playlist is uncomfortable with few options and it looks really ugly if you leave it always visible (would be perfect if it were like the controls)
- many signs appear in "Chinese" even using the English version

Missing:

- Be able to play the entire contents of a folder by opening a single file (the other files are added to the playlist)
- Very few configuration options trading for advanced users, the user has no control of anything.

For example

-Customization subtitles
-Size of the default window to open (full screen, 50%, custom)
- Custom Keyboard Shortcuts
- And other things that allow advanced users to have real control of the player

Highlights:

- Very fast, works very well and very fast load many video formats
- The interface is excellent, very elegant and intuitive
- HD formats work smoothly, unlike other players
- Many other things which I recommend, but not for advanced users, not yet.

Good work! ..

I see a great future for this player. Are only small details to be a favorite of many.

this player is very good at subtitle displaying
also, it can make full use of your CPU capability to play high definition movies
if you want to get a better video experience
this is the right one

Even when I said not to associate with any files it made every file a splayer.avi or even splayer.dat. It did not make itself the default player but made every file a splayer.filetype.

Crashed on first start up.
Could not detect the proper aspect ratio
Doesn't remember view settings when coming out of full screen mode
Image quality was nice

It's far too buggy and intrusive for me to ever give this another try
-5*

3.5 Build 1359 is the current stable release. Still amazed that I can't find a better player, and I'm trying too! I play the same avi with Splayer & MPC at the same time, side by side, & Splayer has better color and clarity. The other so called players can't compete. VLC lacks dxva, KMPlayers picture quality on 720p mkv on side by side comparison really surprised me, it's awful! You try it. Open 3 or 4 players on the same AVI file & synchronize as best you can & put them on the 4 corners of your screen. Now act like your on a shopping trip at Best Buy picking out the Plasma TV. You look for the the best picture, accuracy, clarity, color, features, & ease of use. Damn these Chinese are GOOD!

TGB72 reviewed v3.5 Build 1203 on Apr 27, 2010

It improved a lot since v3.3, I tested v3.5 with almost all formats that claims to support and worked very well. but needs some work in the subtitle department, here are some bugs;

- Fontsize varies in some subtitles embedded in MKV files with multiple subtitles http://i41.tinypic.com/1z3c7l5.jpg), this happen even with "fontsize ratio" set to 1.000 in options (although I think this setting works in external subs)

- No display of audio streams names in context menu (ie, english, spanish, http://i42.tinypic.com/2njhf60.jpg)

-The video seeking could be better, when you navigate some videos sometimes it freezes and other times the picture appears temporary pixelated, this happen mainly with xvid videos.

The interface is nice (I like the controls) but could be better, that gray tittle bar looks too flat and minimalist, also the corners could be a little rounded (like in GOM player)

The lack of forum in english where to report bugs or request features is still a big con but I've no doubt that it's in the right path to be the best player in a near future (even over KM, VLC and MPC)

You can't go wrong with SPlayer or Media Player Classic.

xsnred, imo vlc is better, all the kids complaining about the stability issues and slow frames per second have their own personal issue, vlc has always worked fine and has been my fav. imo vlc is easier to work with also.

Any reason to use this instead of VLC? Giving it a 5 just because I feel good today. I have been using VLC without a hitch for so long I would hate to use another program and get the same results. If someone can tell me why it is better then it might make sense to switch. Thanks.

Still Awesome!! Beta build 1113 is rock solid. As of build 1082 it integrate into windows 7 superbar completely. Only disappointment is the removal of CoreAVC 1.95. WORK AROUND: Install the latest build and put a copy of CoreAVCDecoder.ax in a folder labeled "codecs" and place in Splayer program folder. Now select options, Video & Graphic, show hidden options, and select the Decoder "CoreAVC" right below "Quality Mode". I copied CoreAVCDecoder.ax from my installation folder for CoreAVC Pro 2.0. You could also use the 1.95 included in SPlayer stable 1021 and keep a copy of it for future upgrades. 2.0 is faster and more fluid in .mkv playback on 7 x86 than 1.95, Visibly so. I have researched ffmpeg versus CoreAVC and the most noticeable difference is sharpness and clarity. Ffmpeg renders as fast and is like looking threw dirty glass when compared in still shots. Why use the best player without the best decoder? I am so happy I switched to this after trying ALL the others. Keep up to date F.F. I know the current builds, why don't you? Need help? Obviously! Hire more people or ask for volunteers or RESIGN your web site to say Major Geeks if it's to much for you. Your loyal users expect accurate descriptions and build information.

Current stable build is 1021 & beta is 1026. This player rocks!!! I have had not one problem since using any of the betas and am never going to use any other player. I have used VLC, Kmplayer, Mplayer, Bsplayer, and Gom. This player simply does what others have tried and failed, It Works Flawlessly. The site has a box in the upper right corner labeled "Language" to select English. This player in no way shape or form will alter your videos or change your windows language to chinese. Warning: after installing this on windows 7 64bit asrock, my toilet backed up. I contacted Splayer and they assured me to resolve this in the next release. I uninstalled and my toilet is still plugged! You've been warned. Puff, puff, pass.

I mean its nice and small and such but.. it interferes too much with the rest of my system.. after installing it no other player would play standard MPEG1 files properly anymore.. they were all sped up and caused other players to lockup.. also several various bits of texts in various dialogs like the standard windows autorun dialog box .. were suddenly in chinese.. and removing the player didnt fix it.. ended up with a reinstall so.. dont really think I'll try this player again for some time...

I suspect its not QUITE capable of dealing with english based operatingsystems yet.. so.. I'll keep an eye on it and stick with KMPlayer for the time being..
Windows 7 64bit here..

Pros
- Flawless playing for avi (Xvid/DivX), mpeg1/2, , mp4 (h264+AAC), mov and rmvb files (better than KMplayer, MPCHC and VLC)
- Portable version available
- Open Source

Cons
- Can't play properly MKV files
- It consume much more CPU than other players when it play HD files, tested it with 720p files (1024x576) in mp4 and divx containers.
- It requires PS 2.0 in order to use brightness/contrast controls and filters (meaning these functions wont work with old video cards)
- Can't read some characters in subtitles, ie. ¡ ¿ ñ
- No support for other language than chinese and english
- No customization of hotkeys
- The uninstallation is only in chinese

I didn't test it with videos with multiple audio streams and neither can see how it works with embedded ssa subs with tags since it have problems to play MKV files.

It looks promising but need a lot of work, and although looks like the foobar of the video players it's not, its oriented to play HD content fine only in new or high end pcs. For the development stage the number version should be 0.32 instead 3.2

Blaxima reviewed v3.2 Build 961 on Nov 24, 2009

From the sPlayer site, "Exquisite beauty - Designer Raven from Milan created a set of interfaces. Beautiful skin can let you feel more comfortable while playing".

uh, ok.

I don't see this looking like anything special. It seems to play the few files I threw at it but the player doesn't save all of the changes I made in settings and even after selecting Engrish (it starts in Chinese) I still find some things not translated. The most important thing for me with a video player is image quality but I just didn't give it enough of a chance because of the poor translation to English. It does seem like a simpler MPC with of course that exquisite beauty and I would still rather use this over that buggy mess KMPlayer.

I'll keep my eye on this but I'm not jumping ship anytime soon as this offers nothing over my other players

nugro

nugro reviewed v3.2 Build 961 on Nov 24, 2009

This is just a dumbed down MPC-HC with prettier interface, I guess this is suitable if you want an easy "just play it dammit" player, but both Kmplayer and MPC-HC offer more tweakability and just as fast.

@dotnetnightmare
Uh you do realize that this site is called "Betanews" right?

dotnetnightmare reviewed v3.2 Build 961 on Nov 23, 2009

This player is amazing! It handles H264 with ease and detects GPU, enable acceleration and still has numerous filters to curtail to your viewing pleasure. It gives all others a run for the Best Player 2009 as it was designed in part with the help of Gabest (MPC-HC), and other leaders in open source video development. Interface blends in perfectly with Windows 7 and gives information as to the current decoder in use for varying video types. Cpu usage is on par with MPC-HC and the Hover over bar on the top of the screen gives easy one click access to audio & video control. English and Chinese languages included. Right click and scroll thru menu options till you see "English" and click if it installs to Chinese. This is a Development release, the Stable is 959. I have found no bugs myself, but wish F.F. would stop posting Beta as a Stable Release without stating it in the description. Some of us trust F.F. to put accurate info and not hose our computers.
