Second Copy arranges your backup need in sets of "profiles". Each profile is a set of file and folder specifications which tells it what you want to be copied, to where, and when. Once configured, it monitors the "source" folders for changes or updates and copies new or changed files to the "destination". This process is done unobtrusively in the background.

Reviewing 8.0.0.0 (Sep 10, 2010)
I gave it a 2 for a simple reason: it refuses to work if you try preventing it from loading on Windows startup. I do NOT need scheduled backups, and thus switched to Toucan, which is not only fully portable, but also free (that's always a bonus). If Second Copy just gave me the option to NOT load on startup instead of enforcing it, I would have given it a 4 (and it would have been somewhat portable). Sure it's a lot more powerful than Toucan, but denying an obvious choice is dumbfounding.
2nd Copy: Sorry Sir, I MUST run on Startup
Me: No thanks, I'll just fire you up when I need you, but thanks anyway.
2nd Copy: Sorry Sir, you misundertsood, you HAVE to let me run, or else...
Me: Or else what?
2nd Copy: I shall just REFUSE to work altogether.
Me: Oh, ok then (starts uninstalling 2nd Copy)
2nd Copy: Oh, hum, that's embarrassing, I thought I was controlling the situation... aaaarrgh...
(Me installs Toucan)
Toucan: Hello Sir, do you need me?
Me: Not right now, I'll give you a holler when I do.
Toucan: Alright, no problem Sir!
Me: Good boy.

Best by far. Easy to use, yet has all the options you could possibly need.
Reviewing 7.1.0.32 Beta (Jun 2, 2009)
It a matter of application. I've used both dsyncronize and 2nd copy. 2nd copy can even keep your ftp site synced with your local pc, will sync your usb stick (by name) when you plug it in. Will sync files when they change, let you filter out files/extensions you don't want. Dsync is fine for basic sync.
My only drawback is sync with fat32 drives.

Have tried a few and for my needs, this is the best (free or otherwise) - well worth the price.
