ShadowUser Pro insulates your PC from all manner of day to day problems. In effect, it runs an exact duplicate of your system as a virtual machine, known as ShadowMode. If a software installation goes wrong or a virus hits, you can completely discard the virtual machine. Conversely, if you've successfully installed software or made other important changes, you can write all or part of the virtual machine back to the actual, physical PC's storage.

Used it a couple of times to compare with other similar products. Very similar to DeepFreeze , a product of Faronics, and GoBack which is now a product of Symantec in that you must reboot every time you want to use it and do the same to deactivate it. Both GB and SU seem to write all additions, deletions, and modifications to files to an area on the disk to keep track of all changes while you use your computer and is therefore limited by disk space ... an installation like Microsoft Office would probably create a large "virtual" file. GoBack can take you back to some points in time that it creates every few minutes. Bad thing about GoBack is it seems to slow down the computer and do more writing to the hard disk which will wear it out sooner so I don't recommend using it continuously. DeepFreeze doesn't seem to work the drive so hard and doesn't seem to slow anything down but I don't think you can continue without losing all your changes ... DF seems to restore your computer to it's state when you booted it ... not sure how but it does it quickly. They have their pros and cons. One might need a weekend to try all 3. I might use this one occasionally to test programs or visit dangerous sites but not continuously because of the additional wear and tear on my drive and it costs a little more then the other 2.
