Publisher's Description

LiveUpdate is the Symantec technology that permits an installed Symantec product to connect to a Symantec server over the Internet to check for program and other updates such as virus definitions and URL lists. When updates are available, it downloads them to your computer and installs them, keeping your Symantec software up to date. All updates that are downloaded are checked for a valid digital signature.

It is intended for use with Home & Home Office products, such as Norton AntiVirus 2008 and earlier, Norton Internet Security 2008 and earlier, and Norton 360. It is NOT intended for use with Norton AntiVirus 2009 or Norton Internet Security 2009. LiveUpdate is not a separate program in these products.

Symatec has the best Security software on the market today and I have tried ALL of them!

If you liked their 2009 software, just wait till they release 2010. I'm beta testing it now and its incredible.

What a pack of morons...as urbanriot already stated, the review is for Symantec LiveUpdate 3.0.0.166, not how you feel about Symantec products. Works fine.

Wow, there are most certainly a lot of non-reviews posted here. Regarding this version of live update - it installed, it updated, no issues. So it does what it's supposed to.

Norton anti-virus is absolute crap, and so is their internet security. It's expensive (unless you pirate it, which is still a hassle), really really slow, bloated and takes up a whole lot of un-necessary room. If you want anti-virus and a software firewall, get AVG free and zonealarm firewall.

Both are free and work great.

Symantec software just sucks.

It has good sides and bad sides:
Good Sides:
1.it gets trijan horses and other anoing stuff
2.It will alert u always of all dangers
Bad sides
1.It always alerts you with popups that are worse then the viruses them selfs becouse they are always on top and a lot of them for the same thing.
2.It's user Un-friendly interface bites big time, also i had to rename half the files for it to do it's work properly without cousing more troble then it removes
3.it has a mind of it's own( i told it to NOT notify me when it has an error but it does i cheked and it wasen't ticked of to notify but when i left it to do it's work half an hour later it had 63 masseges)
4.It catches Some viruses becouse some of the new ones are made to avoid it and it catches NO spyware althought i don't really see how that would be a thought update!

Please note that the link provided here is for the corporate LiveUpdate. Installing it on a home system will cause you to uninstall NIS/NAV completely and reinstall. I learned the hard way, but got smart and did the AVG/ZA reinstall. I really do think Norton has the right idea, but letting the wrong update of LiveUpdate hose your entire system, um, that's a bit of bad programming and PR, I would say.

For a security company, Symantec sure does have a lot of security holes in it's products.

I've had such horrendous issues with liveupdate and Norton products that I've shrugged off symantec products for the future. This review is for all the machines that I work on until their subscriptions expire.

Looks like all the bugs I encounted have been fixed. The visuals are a lot better, there's a new designed icon/logo and more modern look within the program. I don't know why LiveUpdate never updates itself via LiveUpdate, because I never found out about v2 until 3 months after it was released. I just happened to come across this when I was about to download and install LiveUpdate 2 on a computer with Norton IS 2002. I was never notified of this update via LiveUpdate 2. 5/5, much better!

This thing still has bugs in it. It wouldn't install because every time it tries to uninstall my old live update, it jsut hangs and freezes.

Bro. Rat: It is free. Only some programs Symantec has makes you pay for updates, but this program itself is free.
