I'm not sure if it was just my system, but when I installed the beta or the version before my system froze when the app started.

Perhaps you should try again or at least read the Help File seeing how Godfather is too difficult for you to use.

Nice to see a new version and it is working fine.

Simply the best tools for tagging. So easy to use
I think mp3tag is so overrated compared to this.

Upon installing and launching:

"Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed."

Uh... WTH are you talking about? Nothing in the log. No details provided anywhere.

And when I navigate in the tree, not a single file appears in the right pane.

Nice stuff.

Typical high-rated freeware.

A welcome return!
This was and is my favoite tool for tagging audio files.
Give it a try, be aware that it is a beta after many years of absense.

While this version is just now being added to BetaNews it's actually a very old version. I'm going to rate this a 5 as it was the top of its field at the time of its release, but time has marched on and The Godfather doesn't handle some of the newer tags.

Like arjesus I had to move on to mp3tag because development stopped on this program, but I didn't go willingly. If The Godfather hadn't stopped development I'd still be using it to this day.

R.I.P.

i used this program long time ago, back in 2007 and it was awesome, i dunno why they paused the project.. what made me go for another app.. so i find mp3tag

I gave this a four only because it didn't support what I was looking to convert from... wav files. Everything else is quite good.

Best of the best. Nothing beats it. It can re-encode music files, rename, re-tag, automatic draw the the tags from the internet and apply them.

I wouldnt want a computer without this amazing piece of software. The author can be well proud of himself.

ghammer

The best for any function you care to name regarding tagging and renaming/moving you audio library. The author is the best, very responsive!

DiGiTaLFX: You can change not to have the leading zero if you want. Look at the options again carefully. Its under Tags/Rename.

DiGiTaLFX

DiGiTaLFX reviewed v0.69 Beta 2 on Jan 9, 2005

This program has to be the best for organisation. I absolutely love it. All I'd say is for an option to have no leading zero in the track tag (at least I can't find one!) Else its bang on.

To the person who said the design is horrible and it looks like crap and then suggest Tagscanner. I looked at Tagscanner and this application looks alot better and has alot more features than Tagscanner. GodFather wins :)

This is the best tagger program I have ever used. It helped me tags hundreds of mislabled songs and albums and also rename them. My entire music collection is perfectly organized now. Tons of features and online music database support.

rejected

rejected reviewed v0.65 on Oct 12, 2004

Best tagger I've ever used, I still use an old VB prog named Renamer for renaming files, haven't tried the file rename in this yet though. Makes it real easy to tag all my albums with ease.

darkpepe

darkpepe reviewed v0.65 RC on Sep 4, 2004

The GUI is a bit confusing, and it lacks of usability. It's just dump to separate the use of tags, renaming, online etc instead of having it all at once. There is no reason for that.
I still miss some features, like custom automatic folder renaming or batch album cover downloads.
I will stick to mp3tag for now, but TGF looks promising.

WOW!! I have been looking for a program like this for years. What a phenomenal program. It manages tags like nothing other. It's a bit tricky to use but by far the most powerful mp3 managent application I've ever seen. Anxiously awaiting what this developer has in store for later versions!! Thank you!

capnqwest

capnqwest reviewed v0.65 Beta 3 on Aug 26, 2004

Easily the best damn tagger I have ever used free or otherwise. I am blown away every time I use this app. If you manage audio files, this is a REQUIRED download.

JEdwardP

JEdwardP reviewed v0.65 Beta 3 on Aug 26, 2004

It's great if you want an all-in-one sort of thing, but I'd much rather my tagger be just a great tagger, rather than trying to organize, encode, and play.

I prefer to use my directory structure for organization, and Mp3tag for tagging, which is lighter weight, and supports every format I can think of, including Speex.

First off, This program is the BEST for editing Tags, by far the easiest I have ever used. Makes updating a SNAP!
Very NICE Program - Minor little things...
sometimes, it copies the same song for the name, in the fill grid, causing the program to think this is a invalid file.(impossible to update\change-Even manually editing wouldn't save the new tag)
Would like an option to Copy \ paste an Id3 tag (from ver. 1 or 2 vice versa)sometimes, all of them don't have the tags, would be nice to C&P to the ones that don't.
other then the minor things mentioned.
- This Software truely deserves it's name -

fUnkYth99

fUnkYth99 reviewed v0.60 on Jun 20, 2004

Best tagging tool out there. I tried a lot of free and shareware programs and this one is the best, a very nice feature is fetching the data of a song or disc from allmusic.com, with a few clicks yoy have everything: coverart, comments, musicians, etc. The interface could be more sophisticated, but remember it´s still a program under development.

darthbeads

darthbeads reviewed v0.60 Beta 5 on May 24, 2004

People really need to review the program not the damn name! The Godfather is a phenomenal gem of freeware tag-editing bliss. The interface is a bit wonky and takes some time to get used to, but once you get the hang of it (reading the help files makes an enormous difference), it can't be beat by any freeware alternative I have used. Great work!

Try it, you won't be disappointed.

Very nice, I have yet to find a bug in it. I used to use Windows Media Player 9 to do this kind of stuff but this is just alot better, WMP9 only finds and renames mp3's on Windows XP anyways. I'm very impressed with this software and I believe I'll continue to use it for a long time. I hope it stays free, I havn't any money ;]
