   I can't recommend this release.
   
   I won't be able to recommend the next one either.
   
   The reason is quite simple:
   
   Why would anyone in their right mind (or even their wrong mind) install an operating system that will only be supported for NINE MONTHS??
   
   Bad enough that Canonical did the gadfly "here's a new OS every six months". Stupid? Yes. But at least each version was supported for 18 months, give or take. Now it's NINE MONTHS. That's TRULY intelligent (DRIPPING sarcasm tags). 12.04 did not become stable and usable until after the 12.04.1 release and now Canonical wants to foist an OS on its users that will only get fixes and updates for half the time it was previously supported for.
   
   NOTHING can go wrong with THAT.
   
   Anyone with a modicum of sense will now completely eschew the non-LTS releases and let Canonical beta test their software with other suckers.
   
   Of course the support for visually impaired users remains spotty. Yes, you can enable Compiz Enhanced Desktop Zoom. No, it doesn't support zooming the Launcher because Canonical was too STUPID to take that into account. Yes, you can install MyUnity and enlarge the size of the Launcher icons. No it's not bloody big enough by a longshot.
   
   So, here's my recommendation:
   
   - Completely ignore anything and everything from Canonical that ISN'T a LTS release (including this release)
   - Download and use 12.04 LTS until 14.04 LTS comes out.
   - Ditch Unity as the failed interface and half baked impairment to multitasking that it is and install Cinnamon (forget MATE: GNOME2 is dead and that's that)
   - If you're visually impaired, install gnome-shell-mousewheel-zoom by Tobias Quinn to get Compiz-style desktop zooming for the ENTIRE desktop
   
   ONE star for a complete waste of time and download bytes - a nine month support lifespan is insulting anyone's meaningful intelligence.
   
   Oh and thanks for the interesting Beta, Canonical - but I'll wait for the Final in the Spring of 2014.

   Sadly ubuntu has jumped the shark, and with it the last hope of linux ever making inroads into the desktop market. If you check google trends, ubuntu peaked around v9.10 or v10.04, when it still had a traditional desktop and amazing performance, but its been all downhill from there and the trends show that clearly. Switching their desktop to a tablet/touchscreen only interface has really killed this OS but thats not the only factor, slow boot times and bad desktop performance have been a factor as well. At the same time Microsoft stepped up to the plate and made a massive improvement to Vista in the form of Win7, which corrected a lot of the performance and UI issues that made Vista such a maligned OS. If ubuntu had capitalized on their position at about the time of v10.10, made the OS even faster, even more responsive instead of making a 90 degree right turn, we might be looking at a far different desktop OS landscape today instead of heading back to the MS dominated future we are headed to. I personally think ubuntu/unity would be great for a tablet, in fact I'd pay real money to get a tablet with a real OS on it, instead of some clunky android toy garbage. But they missed the boat on that one too and we won't even be able to ubuntu tablets till next year probably.
   
   For anyone who still wants and ubuntu based desktop that looks normal and it quite responsive, head over to Elementary OS website and grab that. Or even Linux Mint if you can handle using Cinnamon, which in my experience is just not quite there yet for day to day use.
   
   The ubuntu/unity combo is not only completely dead for desktop computers, but its killed linux desktop in general.

   For those that hate Unity - I do to. First thing I do is install Ubuntu-gnome-desktop which is quite good (if you like Gnome3). Also install KDE,LXDE etc etc. Lots of desktops to install. Then install Synaptic or use the Ubuntu Software to get quite a few good apps. Also yo9u can install gnome-tweak-tool or Ubuntu tweak or what and make the Unity desktop to your liking (I don't use it anyway.

   I recently updated my ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10. It's not good in terms of interface because the alert or optional message is not getting displayed and the text is having the white background in select options which is not good at all......thinking back to downgrade the ubuntu 12.04. which is very good and stable.

   Soldier1st: you miss the point of my text completely, I have been trying Linux for the past 20 years and I am having the same old problems now as I had 20 years ago i.e. no printer drivers no scanner driver, can’t use 2 monitors nothing remotely as good as photoshop (and don’t mention Gimp it’s a joke” the man in the street just wants a OS and software to do their bidding without tinkering about on the command line. This is the year 2010 not 1985

   Oh, god no, don't do it you crazy bas****, every time you install a Ubuntu prerelease you shoot yourself if the foot, and bork your system....
