This is not a usable development tool, it's no good for C#/ASP.NET/XML or SQL, if you need a perl editor, there's TextPad or Visual Perl for Visual Studio .NET 2003. The "bracket matching" and dito functions are buggy and ugly (sorry guys). Where's the 0x0? No modern editor is released today without hexedititor.

Interesting program..but doesn't it look like that both reviews above were written from the developer of the program?

I code in C++, VB, and VBA mostly these days and was looking for a text editor that would make my life easier. I tried many and finally stumbled on WinPTE in a Google search. I am so glad I did! The support from the developer in phenomenal and respose to questions is lightning fast!

Since I started using WinPTE my coding is much faster due to the many built-in keyboard shortcuts and other features.

There are MANY keyboard shortcuts to include such things as Ctrl+Enter (completes line with quotes, if applicable, and line continuation character and moves you to start of next line), Alt+Enter (re-align line), Ctrl+L (inline variable declaration. Puts variable in declares and returns you to the line with the variable inserted), Ctrl+Shift+D (Auto clean up of unused variables), Alt+J (Join next line with current removing white space), and MANY others.

WinPTE auto flows comments allowing you to start typing a comment and it will automatically keep it within the margins adding new lines (with comment character) as needed. I use ALLOT of comments in my code and this feature alone has saved me an enormous amount of time in formatting comments.

WinPTE has auto-completion of variables, to include local variables, and many standard statements. For instance for VB/Lotus script it will automatically complete FOR, WHILE and DO. Just type END space and if the closest un-closed statement is DO, the end is changed to LOOP, likewise FOR will result in NEXT and WHILE in WEND.

Another feature I find VERY useful is bracket matching. Most of my code involves complex statements with many nested decision trees; this feature has saved me countless hours of debugging! Along with bracket matching WinPTE will also automatically create the matching closing bracket when you type the opening bracket, this features helps you to keep your bracketing consistent.

There are MANY more features of this editor which are beyond a mini review such as this but suffice it to say this is now the editor I use day to day and has made it possible for me to decrease my turn around time substantially!

Try it and you will see what I mean!

I have been using another text editor for over a year and found myself doing a lot of manual work to get my text source files formatted to my liking. So, I decided to look for something to ease my work load. A global search on the net found WinPTE. And am I glad I did!

WinPTE is a programmers dream of a text editor. Program in C#, C++, VB, Perl ... no problem. WinPTE has built-in templates to handle these languages automatically. However, I programmed in a business basic known as ProvideX. I posted a question of the developer on how to get WinPTE to work with my programming language. In less than two weeks, the developer has made WinPTE compatible with ProvideX basic. What used to take me several days to do, now only takes a matter of minutes. Drag a compiled pcode file and drop it on WinPTE, and immediately external tools are called to convert the pcode file to text that is loaded and automatically formatted for me. PowerBlock mode makes available a number of power cursors to edit similar code constructs simultaneously. Outline mode lets you "roll up" code under its designated label and expose it for modification as necessary. Customizable syntax highlighting ... auto completion of looping constructs ... code templates for new program development ... dockable project and workspace panes ... "tear-off" pop-up menus ... customizable tool bars (add your own tools to the tool bar) ... function lookup ... and my favorite: the TODO pane (Just create a simple commented note tag in your program, and it shows up in the TODO pane ... click on the tag in the TODO pane and you are taken directly to that tag in the program .. list all TODO's in your complete project if you wish).

I was looking for a text editor that made my job easier .. I found it in WinPTE! If you ever try a text editor ... this is the one to try! I still have to make my own coffee ... but WinPTE does the rest!
