I bought WinZip when it first came out, I think around Windows 3.1, although I'm not exactly sure, And they kept giving me free upgrades until, all of a sudden, with the latest upgrade, they said I had to pay the full price, no discount.
I might have done so if they had offered me a discount, but no. Full price or nothing.
So, I didn't upgrade. The previous version still worked. And soon enough, I didn't need it any more. So, what's the point in using WinZip?

a decent archiver but WinRAR is better in every way. 7-zip is satisfactory for being free. there's really no need to pay for any of these programs any more, even for businesses and schools.
but it doesnt still work adequately enough

Winzip will not close business Novice people will still buy it or those who are fooled by the eye candy GUI. Proof? my company bought an enterprise license, in spite of recommendation of advanced users to go for freeware or open source + generous donation. There are still people who think "if it cost more it should be better".
