WinSync is used to keep the time accurately synchronized to a trusted network time reference. It is well known that clocks on computers are notorious for drifting, and this can lead to serious network operations problems. It alleviates these problems by regularly updating the computer's clock to the correct time. The resulting accurate synchronization is essential for many mission critical network operations and applications, and particularly important for network log file accuracy to improve network fault diagnosis and forensics. The default time sources are the network time servers at NIST, USNO, and TrueTime, Inc. For WinSync to work through a firewall, port 123 must be open.

[Note: Price was not a factor in my rating of this software.]

This does seem to be a nice time client, and it's without a doubt the best freeware client I have found, but that's not saying much. It's far better than Dimension 4, because of what I say in the next sentence...

WinSync can automatically try alternate servers in the list, if the first one doesn't respond. It has a built-in logging function, and an option to automatically clear that log after a given number of days. (The logging is essentially useless, though, because it fails to depict the amount by which the clock was corrected.)

It would be nice if it could either run as a service, act as an NTP server, or both. In addition, I've found somewhat minor interface bugs on the "Servers" and "Advanced Settings" portions of the application. More importantly, WinSync does not prevent multiple instances of itself from running, which is just plain sloppy of them. There's also no way to get rid of the splash screen. (Maybe a resource editor would do the trick, but that's a PITA, and I didn't check.)

This is the best time syncronization program on the market. Truetime really did an excellent job with this program, especially making it able to syncronize with their own servers.
