Bobad is on crack. 37mb? As anomoly said, the exe for XNView is under 4Mb. I just started up both XNView 19.96.2 and Faststone Viewer 3.9. Memory usage as follows:
XNView: 15,328k working memory, 79,228k virtual.
Faststone: 25,312k working, 88,036k virtual.
Not only is XNView faster and smaller (the minimal version's zipfile is just over 3Mb), it uses LESS system resources and it DOESN'T force you to use crapburger skins (which is why FS uses so much RAM and why it's interface is so sluggish). SNORT! I repeat: this is STILL the best freeware picture viewer and manipulator.

There are several zip versions on their website. If you compress the exe in the standard version, the folder is only 6.45 MB. Whereas my installed folder is 696 MB. I have too many pictures.
The exe by itself, zip or installed, is 3.98 MB, not 1.5.

I have used this for years. I prefer the layout over other programs. Also if you think that it is too big for a pen drive, then all you need to have is xnview.exe set up as a portable. It is then only about 1.5Mb. By doing this you loose some of the extras that get installed with a full installation.
Edit:
@ anomally
It is about 1.5Mb if you use UPX to compress it. If you don't know what UPX is then you would not be using it anyway & you would be stuck with the original bigger file size.

XnView is not a bad product. It does most of the things a picture viewer needs to do. However, the configuration is awkward, and requires a lot of tweaking to make it behave as I want it to . Another thing is, it's HUGE. Whereas FastStone is 5MB and IrfanView about the same, XnView is 37MB! That'll put the bite on your USB flash drive! I still recommend the program. It has good shell extension options, filters, and a choice to use an IN I file. But why use a huge "4" when you could be using a more powerful yet small, quick, tidy "5" in FastStone?

Still the best freeware picture viewer/manipulator. Better than Faststone, better than Irfanview, better than Wildbit. Thumbnails work perfectly fine for me, and have done so on multiple computers for multiple years.
