ZAP is a true archiving software package, it should not be confused with traditional catalog browsers that just link to pictures scattered over your hard drive. With ZAP, your pictures are stored in a database format that is indexed for easy retrieval and compressed to save space on your drive.

Backup all your pictures easily as they are self contained in a single file that prevents them from being deleted or renamed unexpectedly. In most cases you will see a reduction of 40% or more in drive storage requirements. Pictures are stored in a non-destructive compressed format that does not affect the presentation of the original pictures.

Storing pictures from different directories with the same name has been dressed by assigning a unique number to every picture in the database. You may also use a password to restrict access to specific pictures, a valuable feature for professional applications (medical records for example), or to protect the privacy of your graphic collection.

    The rating is due to the fact to access the zip file you need a password which you have to get from the Zap Solutions Website. Plus the price of the software seems over inflated for its purpose when you can get other solutions which just archive for you. $750 US for the standard version! Plus I have concerns about that compressed non destructable format that they use for all your pictures as it seems to be something that is theirs alone and NOT an open standard so if the company dies what then all your stuff is locked into their program forever????
    I will try the program out when I get the password and I will continue the review.
