Publisher's Description
dtNotes (that is, desktop notes) is a software application that allows computer users to place electronic sticky notes onto their computer monitors. All notes can be color-coded, their size and location are individually adjustable, and an unlimited number of notes can be displayed simultaneously. Notes can be displayed on the desktop or on top of all windows to always be in front of your eyes. The notes come with a task scheduler, reminder and alarm options. At a time you set, a certain application can be launched or a sound alarm will be triggered, making sure you do not forget anything. There also are note archives, automatic backup and note import/export options. Create your own note templates too. The best thing about the program is how easy it is to create, modify and manage notes. There are system-wide hotkeys that let you create a new note by simply pressing a hotkey combination or double-clicking a program system tray icon. The program note list manager can be used as a "To Do" list. It also features an option to stamp notes with the date and time they were created.

I don't know how these reviews got so off topic. Anyway I have tried lots of "sticky note" programs over the years, and I finally bought this one (yes, I actually bought it.. $19.95 is not a lot of money people)
This program does what I need it to and does it with a clean and pleasant user interface. It is one of the very few sticky note apps that properly handles scrollbars within a note. It's great that notes can be searched. I like that each note can have its own appearance (font, color etc). The program does not use much memory and does not slow down the system.
I am now testing the 4.0beta version and it has a few bugs but I have already been in contact with the developer and he is working on them.
Overall I think if you try this program you will like it!

Offset, of course, by the bloated price of Macs both then and now, not to mention the severely deflated software base of Macs back then. In fact, let's face it, Macs have absolutely no saving grace even now (just as they didn't back then) except -maybe- for the fact that they run Linux rather than their ridiculous original operating system. Anyway, back to this program. Not worth it when there are so many other free (and smaller) stickies programs out there. I'd even suggest using Windows PowerPro (which does a billion things, sticky notes being just one of them, and which I can guarantee does things Macs never even dreamed of back in the 80's.) So yeah, PC users are still alpha in this household, so keep your head down, eat out of your own food bowl and quit the snide Mac vs PC crap.

Ahhhh, a PC version of an app that shipped free with all Macs since the 1980s - only the Mac app had less memory usage and no bloated interface.

I hardly ever try out these type programs that cost money, but I was intrigued because of the interface (icons/colors, etc.). Like another reviewer, I doubt I'd pay for it when there's so many free ones out there that do the same thing. I've tried them all...I'm after the perfect one!
One thing it doesn't seem to have that all the free/shareware ones have is there is no a way to "snooze" the alarms.
Another thing was that I had to go to the "properties" to edit it...too many clicks; a right-click would suffice.
I also couldn't create a new note from the table view--had to click on "new note" icon and the only way to create a task was to create a note first.
The one thing it had that I absolutely loved was the database view so I can see all the notes/tasks in a table which was sorted easily, but I didn't see a filter (only today's tasks/notes or a week/month).
I'm definitely going to continue to evaluate it to be sure I'm correct in my first experiences with it and that I didn't miss something. It has potential, but I think I'd be more willing to donate money to the program creators versus buying it. The interface gets a 5 (I love seeing my notes in list form.), however, these little annoyances bring it down for my rating.

Not a bad effort but as others have mentioned there are some free or open-source alternatives available. A commercial version would have to offer niche features for it to be viable.

Hey. It's pretty good you know - has some features that I've always wanted on ATNotes, like hiding by folder.
I'd personally make it freeware/donations and bask in the fame. A serious rival to ATNotes. Anybody got a crack =p

AT Notes may well be free, but it is uglier than dtNotes. Seeing as these things are gonna be all over your screen, then I would suggest that aesthetics are an important consideration. I went to the dtNotes home page and the screenshots of beta 3 look really very nice. It is always a pleasant surprise to me when I see a developer who cares about the look of their software. So many authors just concentrate only on the functionality (and then throw in any old cr@p as the interface at the last minute). I agree that it was probably not a good idea for the author to "Review" his program here (especially as there is no way to contribute without giving it a rating). If he tried to give a neutral value of 3 stars, people might say that he doesn't even think his own software is any good! I personally find author comments here acceptable when they clearly state that they are the author at the very beginning of their comment, and use the Review simply to point out factual information about the program rather then hyping it up.

Of course you use it everyday, of course you like it ! You write it for YOU !!! It's still a shame to ask people to pay $15.
