2.5 years into development of this "branch" and it's finally starting to provide enough benefits to consider upgrading from Bonk 1.0.16. It's available in 64 bit code and now has what appears to be some true multi-core support. Conversion times for groups of files seems greatly improved over 1.0.16, for example. This, plus the return to the LAME encoder makes this development release worth looking at.

Not a fan of this branch. The original line worked fine up and until Bonk 1016, but things started to get unstable after that, and then they decided to start this "fork" project, and it all went downhill from there.

First, there should be a Clear feature and capability comparison between what Bonk 1016 had and what this "fork" offers, so people know if they are losing any features, and also know what new / unique / modified features to test for stability and functionality.

Second, the download size is more than double that of Bonk 1016. What are you giving us for that double size? Anything worth having?

What is this "fork" trying to be? Are you an encoder and converter? Are you a Music library? Are you a Video download program? What the heck are you trying to accomplish with this?

Also, development is so sluggish it's almost stagnant. You've been left in the dust by lots of other programs that do much of what you are trying to do and they do it a whole lot better.

Throw onto the pile all of those bugs going on and you have a product not even worth trying.

Skip this "fork" and go with the standard program instead.

Some interface and slow-down issues are showing up in this latest release. Dragging and dropping entries onto the app often results in screen corruption, which sometimes can be dealt with by scrolling up and down the file list. Also, when I do drag and drop those files over, sometimes the speed at which they are added is noticeably slower than 1.0.14 and 1.0.15.

I hope the developer is able to lock down the code on the core features before adding the enhanced tag editing / presentation and other useful concepts. I'm a big supporter of Bonk, but this development version does feel a bit more "raw" than I would have expected, and crashes happen frequently enough to be of concern.

Please keep up the good work, and thanks for keeping it free.

I've been using BonkEnc for some time now, and I like it. This development version is really shaping up. It has more codecs and can handle everything I throw at it. Now if there was a good freeware Bonk player.

You're right and you're wrong: That's a Snapshot and in my opinion it means it lay between 1.07 (stable) and before 1.08 Beta.
You can test it or stay on 1.07.

UPDATE - RESPONSE:

So, it's just an early development version that will eventually lead to 1.0.8?

I guess I'm used to seeing such things listed as "Alpha" or something and not a completely separate entry with a different "name" lie CVS.

If this is just a pre-release for 1.0.8, then I'll give it a 4, cause the product is just flat out awesome, but the documentation / information about this particular release is lacking.

Is this just another name for like a 1.0.8 beta?

I think BonkEnc is one of the very best freeware apps out there and feel it is very worthy of a download. But I'm kinda confused about this CVS thing.

Can someone explain it?
