This product has made tremendous improvements in connectivity and usability. You CAN now export screenshots in JPG or BMP, and the whole XP-style left navigation bar is minimizable or completely removable.

I use this product for end user support, and the Host Invitation looks pretty interesting - I can email this to a user, and then connect without either one of us needing to know their IP address?? Smooth.

There are multiple components to this product - including a gateway for getting behind routers - but only the main product is downloadable here. You need to go to the Symantec pcAnywhere site to find the rest.

I have to agree with Stingray there.

The side bar stuff, is usless at best, and is a memory hog. I have used the Tight, Ultra, VNC versions as well as Remote desktop and others. They all have their strengths and weaknesses, but they are free!!!.

If I have to pay to use PCA, why cant they at leats make it faster and better to use each version, as opposed to slower and more bloated each version.

    1. I hate the stupid XP selections on the left hand side. I liked the small unobtrusive ones from the top.

    2. The system resources that are used are unreal.

    3. Also, for recording the sessions, the playback module sucks and how about saving the screenshots with JPG or TIF; something other than SCN format(stupids).

    4. Also, if I edit a remote connection in a long list, after I update- it doesn't go back to where it was.

    5. All the connections set a specific modem, but if you change your modem and you have alot of remotes your supporting, you have to change all the remote connections to the new modem; how about a mass update options for multiple selected items.

    6. Should be able to disable the details on the left hand side becuase it slow the program down if you are connected over a WAN getting contacts. It's virtually unusable, unless you copy the contacts to your local machine.

    Note to Symantec:
People that are using this program are most likely going to be advanced computer users; stop catering to the idiots and the newbies. If you bother to use the program yourself for any amount of time, you'll see your own short comings.

I have to use PCA for work, but I use UltraVNC everywhere else. Small foot print, low resources, deployable and encryption available. Oh and free.

Just another observation by a person that actually does tech support.

Being using pcAnywhere since the days of DOS. Windows versions are slower but still provides the "easiest" remote printer configuration out there. UltraVNC may currently be the "fastest" to update the screen, but offers no remote printer possibilities. Remote Desktop may be "free" with Windows XP Pro but will log-off the user that is using the "remote" PC. This "defeats" the "help" support.

As with all "remote" access solution, you need to think what you require to do "remotely" before selecting a software.
