wxDownload Fast (also known as wxDFast) is an open source download manager. It is multi-platform and builds on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. Besides that, it is a multi-threaded download manager. This means that it can split a file into several pieces and download the pieces simultaneously. It also supports Metalink and checksum verification.

Using it on Ubuntu.F.F. machine and it works very well for me.Not perfect but does the job and its free.
Multi-thread download manager so its faster then a simple download manager.
Tested it on a sites without wxdfast,i was getting 250KB/sec for a file.
Using wxdfast and splited the file in 5,i got 825 KB/sec.
Not bad at all. :-)
Hope its the same for you.
Best regards ,have a nice day.

This download manager is fast, uses low resources, cross platform, open source, supports Metalink, and portable (can use on a USB thumb drive). That's everything I need!

Open source AND portable. awesome!
only thing I noticed was when manually adding url's it would not accept more than one at a time. It is fast. Better than leechget. Be nice if it shut itself down on completion. I can handle the pc part.

This downloader is a no-nonsense tool that just works, and works well. It fits right in on Windows, too - aesthetics are fine.
The only problem I've had with it in the past is it crashing very rarely, but that was when it was much "younger". No such problems in this release.
